Fondazione Sodalitas Launches an Observatory on Corporate Social Sustainability & Presents the 1st Report

Fondazione Sodalitas, always committed to promoting the contribution of companies to the development of society, has decided to create a permanent Observatory on Corporate Social Sustainability.

The Observatory aims to know, deepen, and communicate the distinctive contribution of companies in addressing the profound impacts on people and society generated by ongoing changes, in order to realize a lasting perspective of development. The Observatory has a European openness and involved 10 CSR Europe NPOs.

The results of the 1st Report of the Observatory on Corporate Social Sustainability were presented on November 15th at a conference which saw the participation of Jan Noterdaeme, CSR Europe Co-Founder and External Relations. During his speech, he stressed the importance of avoiding negative impacts on fundamental social rights and of co-designing environmental together with social strategies to promote a Just Transition. In addition, he pointed out the significance of a systemic and shared science-based approach of the human factor to facilitate the behavioural changes at all levels for a sustainable society.

There can be no future without social sustainability: two years of the Covid-19 pandemic and the tragic social and economic impact of the war have made it clear. This is especially true in a country like Italy, which has a particularly fragile social situation from different points of view.

The same green and digital transition, while necessary, is bound to have negative social effects in terms of employment and marginalisation of people. Such a context characterised by ever wider inequalities and fractures calls companies to consider the commitment to strengthening social sustainability as central in the coming years.

Youth training, personal and professional development, employee well-being and safety, valuing and including diversity, and generating a cohesive and integrated community: these are the challenges of social sustainability, calling companies to action today to build solid growth and development prospects.
