Join Drive+ to Contribute to Supply Chain Sustainability in the Automotive Industry

  • In face of new EU due diligence measures and increased expectations, Drive+ gives automotive suppliers and suppliers association the opportunity to work together with leading original equipment manufacturers and leverage a common  approach to sustainability. Discover the benefits of joining the platform.

The automotive supply chain is one of the most complex in the world, with components sourced from thousands of small and large suppliers located all over the globe. Identifying and remediating human rights and environmental breaches in the supply chain is an enormous undertaking for a single company alone. Instead, in the collaborative platform Drive+ Tier-1 suppliers and supplier associations can leverage one industry approach. Thanks to the close collaboration with the leading automotive original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) BWM, Daimler, Ford, Honda, Jaguar Land Rover, Mercedes-Benz, Scania, Toyota, Volkswagen, and Volvo, Drive+ members can leverage a common voice representing the whole automotive industry.

After the disruptions caused by COVID-19, the urgency to join forces is now made all the more critical by the publication of the new rules for sustainable supply chains included in the European Commission’s proposal for a Directive on corporate sustainability due diligence. Companies subject to the directive will have to “adopt a plan” to ensure that their business model and strategy “are compatible with the transition to a sustainable economy and with the limiting of global warming to 1.5 °C in line with the Paris Agreement.” They will also have to identify “the extent to which climate change is a risk for, or an impact of, the company’s operations” and if so, include emissions reduction goals in their climate change plan.

In this context, the supplier engagement program offered by Drive+ allows OEMs and suppliers to harmonise and drive forward a common approach to sustainability, thus reducing the burden on suppliers and vulnerabilities to potential breaches.

Drive+ 2022 activities include events and workshops where OEMs and suppliers can directly exchange on best practices for due diligence, the impact of sustainability solutions and how to develop a standardised approach for product emissions in the automotive industry.
