The Covid-19 pandemic has accelerated the digitalization of education and work, highlighting the potential of digital technologies and tools in schools and workplaces. But how to use these technologies & tools properly? How can schools prepare students to enter the labour market with strong digital skills? How can companies develop digital upskilling and reskilling programs, encouraging continuous learning and training, to keep their workforce ready? What will be the new models of education?

Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) jobs especially see a significant shortage of skills and people. Companies can play an active role in inspiring and supporting young people & women to pursue STEM careers - for instance with apprenticeships and scholarships - to work towards a more sustainable and inclusive future.

The European SDG Roundtable “Envisaging the STEM Classroom of the Future”, taking place online on 14 October at 14:00 CET,  will bring together leading companies, European policymakers, and Higher Education Institutions, and civil society organisations to dialogue on the future of STEM education in a post-pandemic scenario and the urgent necessity for digital education and skills

Guest speakers include partners of the collaborative platform Together 4 STEM - Amgen, Huawei, and Johnson & Johnson - Toyota, Amgen, the Italian National Association of Natural Sciences Teachers (ANISN). Andrea Glorioso, policy officer of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion (DG EMPL) will set the stage by introducing the initiatives developed for the promotion of STEM careers.

The Roundtable is part of the European SDG Summit 2021, taking place online from 11-14 October. The Summit will bring together 5000+ Sustainability Leaders in 4 High-Level plenaries and 26 European and National SDG Roundtables to accelerate the journey towards climate neutrality and the adoption of an inclusive approach to the green and digital transition. The event is open and free for everyone.
