2021 has bluntly forced the world to recognize the need to accelerate the green and digital transition towards climate neutrality. However, for this transition to succeed, climate action needs to go hand in hand with social justice. As remarked by Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in her State of the Union speech, “this must be a fair green transition”. In this context, businesses have a key responsibility and role to play to embed societal concerns in their governance, priorities, models, and in their approach to investments and finance.

At the European SDG Summit’s opening plenary “For Climate Action and Just Transition”, business leaders, European policymakers, and civil society’s champions will showcase collaborations, impact-oriented actions, and new forms of Public-Private Partnerships that are key to transform our ecosystems and enhance the livelihoods of citizens, workers, and consumers alike. The session will take place online on 11 October 2021, at 11:30-13:00 CET.

What can you expect:

  • The launch of the first-ever European Sustainable Industry Barometer. The Barometer, developed by CSR Europe in collaboration with V.E, part of Moody's ESG Solutions, provides data on the ESG performance and sustainability level and maturity of European industry sectors and federations, demonstrating the progress made and where further action is urgently needed.

  • Frans Timmermans keynote speech on building a sustainable society and economy post-Covid19. The European Commission Executive Vice President will share insights on the role of the European Union in building a post-pandemic, sustainable society.

  • Best practices from leading companies on how to pursue Climate Action & Just Transition. Speakers include Francesco Starace, CEO of Enel, Alistair Dormer, Executive Vice President of  Hitachi (COP26 Principal Partner), Ilham Kadri, CEO of Solvay, and Vice President of CEFIC, Patrick Pouyanné, Chairman and CEO of TotalEnergies.

  • Conversations with leaders and doers on the power of collaboration & innovation.
