Join CSR Europe’s Biodiversity Platform for Impact
Biodiversity is declining at an unprecedented rate. “Business as usual” is no longer an option. We must take collective action now. CSR Europe, with its new Biodiversity and Industry Platform, provides your company with that opportunity. Register and join the launching event on 24 September in Brussels with the participation of experts coming from the European Commission and the European Investment Bank.
The current global biodiversity targets have failed to stop the catastrophic decline in species. Nothing short of radical changes are needed right now. CSR Europe is calling for stronger collaboration among stakeholders, as only collective action will allow us to achieve a Sustainable Europe by 2030.
For this reason, we are launching the business-led collaborative platform “ Biodiversity & Industry” on September 24th in Brussels. At the event, Lars Mueller of DG Environment at the European Commission, and coordinator of the EU Business@Biodiversity Platform, will provide an overview of the EU policy framework. He will also share with participating companies the used methodologies. Stephen Hart, Senior Loan Officer at the European Investment Bank (EIB) will present the Natural Capital Financing Facility, a financial instrument that supports projects delivering on biodiversity and climate adaptation through tailored loans and investments. Companies, such as Titan Cement and Vattenfall will share their experiences in collaborating with stakeholders to ensure business impacts and how they are managing and measuring the biodiversity impact of manufacturing plants.
The climate crisis and biodiversity are two sides of the same coin, but It’s not too late to act. Only a collective response from the entire international community can reverse a global climate catastrophe.
Governments who gathered at the G7 summit in France at the end of August, signed the Metz Charter on Biodiversity to increase efforts in combating biodiversity erosion and support the development of a post-2020 global biodiversity framework. Ursula von der Leyen, President-Elect of the European Commission, aims instead at proposing a European Green Deal in her first 100 days in office. As part of the European Green Deal, the upcoming European Commission will present a Biodiversity Strategy for 2030 to curtail biodiversity loss within the next five years (2019-2024).
