Enterprise 2020 is about addressing global, regional and national socio-economic challenges crucial in driving transformation towards a smart, sustainable and inclusive society. CSR Europe will address these issues through communities of practice focused on innovative company initiatives and joint business and stakeholder collaborative ventures. This event brings together companies, European institutions, non-governmental organisations, government representatives, academics and other stakeholders from Europe and internationally. Focus on a Partner: Business Leaders Forum Serbia

European project publishes CSR guidelines for the construction sector
A European project on Building Responsible Competitiveness, co-funded by the European Commission, has published CSR guidelines for companies in the construction sector. The guidelines offer practical advice and best practice examples in four thematic areas - health and safety, eco-compatibility, supply chain management, and equal opportunities - as well as an in-depth analysis of the benefits of integrating CSR principles in day-to-day business. The guidelines are a result of an 18-month cooperation project led by Impronta Etica, one of CSR Europe's national partner organisations in Italy.
CSR Europe members call on companies and policymakers to facilitate active age management
CSR Europe's working group on 'Wellbeing at Work for Ageing Employees' calls on businesses and policymakers to take leadership in tackling demographic change in Europe by promoting active age management and better integration of older employees in the workplace. Focusing on the issue of wellbeing at work, the group provides practical advice for companies and outlines examples of current corporate practices in this area. It also appeals to the European Union and national governments to work on a more harmonized legislative framework to facilitate the recruitment and employability of older citizens in the EU.

CSR Europe and national partners release a guide to CSR in Europe
CSR Europe's network of national partner organisations has released A Guide to CSR in Europe, providing insight into the state of CSR and current trends and priorities in different European countries. Topics covered include national CSR policies and legislation, key drivers of CSR, main organisational actors, and recent developments in various thematic areas including environment, supply chain, human rights, equal opportunities, community engagement, and sustainable products and services.
Report urges new approaches to valuing businesses
A new report from a European research team suggests that the traditional focus on narrowly defined shareholder value poses a set of obstacles to assessing companies' environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance. The report looks at how ESG factors impact business success, how companies explain these linkages to investors, and how the investment community treats this data. It goes on to argue that growing sustainability pressures are likely to make these linkages more important in the future.
Barroso: 'We need a new culture of ethics and responsibility'
In the current exceptional circumstances, corporate social responsibility is even more crucial than ever, said European Commission President José Manuel Barroso, speaking at CSR Europe's General Assembly in Brussels on 11 June 2009. Calling for a "new culture of ethics and responsibility", Barroso stressed the importance of re-building trust in business. "People still want markets - but they want markets with a conscience", Barroso said.
