Biodiversity loss is one of the most relevant and yet unresolved challenges that our society is facing today. According to the 2020 SDGs Report of the United Nations, most of the biodiversity-linked SDG targets with a 2020 deadline made insufficient or no progress at all. Yet, business depends on biodiversity to thrive and prompt action is necessary. International policymakers have nevertheless already taken important steps forward with the EU Taxonomy regulation and a new post 2020 global biodiversity framework.

Ahead of the in-person meeting of COP 15 in China next year, the European SDG Roundtable “Integrating Biodiversity in Business”, will gather partners of the collaborative platform Biodiversity & IndustryTitan Cement Group, Enel, Engie, Ipsen, UnipolSai – European policymakers, companies, and civil society organisations for a dialogue on:

  • How to integrate biodiversity into corporate strategies

  • How companies can better include biodiversity considerations at project level

Guest speakers include Anna Karamat, Head of the EU Business @ Biodiversity Platform at the Directorate General for the Environment of the European Commission; Gerard Bos, Director of Global Business and Biodiversity Programme of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN); Alain Vidal Technical Director at the Science Based Targets Network; Mary Charteris, Global EHS Director at IPSEN; Cristiana La Marca, Head of Environment at Enel Group; Elsa Favrot, Environment Project Manager at Engie and Kostis Dragasakis, Group Quarries & Raw Materials Technology Manager, Titan Cement Group.

At the event, taking place 12 October at 09:30-11:00 CET, on CSR Europe will present a new tool developed to help companies identifying  the potential impact of a new project on biodiversity – including climate change and pollution - throughout the value chain, at each stage of a company’s activities.

The Roundtable is part of the European SDG Summit 2021, taking place online from 11-14 October. The Summit will bring together 5000+ Sustainability Leaders in 4 High-Level plenaries and 26 European and National SDG Roundtables to accelerate the journey towards climate neutrality and the adoption of an inclusive approach to the green and digital transition. The event is open and free for everyone. You can register here to have access to all the 30 sessions in programme.
