On Friday, March 15th, the EU Council reached an agreement on the compromise text of the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CS3D), as drafted by the EU Belgian Presidency following weeks of unsuccessful negotiations. Following this milestone and the favourable vote in the EP Juri Committee on March 19th, the European Parliament now has until April 25th to complete the legislative process with a positive response. This signifies that the substantial responsibility placed on companies to address both actual and potential adverse impacts on human rights and the environment is now becoming a reality.

The directive establishes a comprehensive framework of obligations aimed at promoting sustainable and responsible corporate behaviour. It acknowledges the evolving global and European landscape, compelling businesses to actively mitigate adverse human rights and environmental risks not only within their own operations but also throughout their value chains, both domestically and internationally.

Following CSR Europe's first session of the "Due Diligence in Action" Atelier series, which offered companies insight into the directive's text and underscored the significance of supporting due diligence practices, this second session will delve into the six-step process and provide corporate members with practical tools to adopt sustainable business practices effectively by understanding how to setup and implement effective risk assessment practices within the due diligence process.

CSR Europe will convene businesses, expert organizations, and policymakers to focus on the second step of the six-step process. We will provide support to corporate members in understanding how to identify and assess adverse impacts within their operations, supply chains, and business relationships. This involves evaluating their ramifications for both human rights and environmental factors.
