SPEAKERS

In a context of increasing global energy consumption, pollution, and inefficient use of resources, technologies can drive change and help us fulfilling the Paris Agreement. As 2030 edges closer, the need for fast, scalable change only grows. Digital technologies alone have the potential to reduce global emissions by 15 percent by 2030. At the same time, industries have a responsibility to drive down their own carbon footprint across the whole value chain. Information and Communications Technology (ICT) brings an unprecedented opportunity to address global sustainable development challenges.

According to McKinsey, the Covid-19 crisis brought about three to four years of digital innovation in the space of only a few months.  Given the investments made and expectations for a long-lasting change, many sectors of society have the opportunity to hasten the advancement of digitalization and meet the 2030 greenhouse gas emissions reduction milestone sooner than planned.

On the frontline of digitalization lies 5G: an exponential technology and a platform enabling technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT) and Extended Reality (XR). Through these technologies, enterprises can build all-manner of known and future unknown, disruptive use

This roundtable will showcase various examples of digitization in the industry that led to a reduction in carbon emissions, including Ericsson’s 5G driverless vehicles, 5G for port logistic operations, as well as for manufacturing.
