Huawei, the leading global provider of information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure and smart devices, has joined the collaborative platform Together 4 STEM as its newest member.

Maya ZHU, Head of Global Corporate responsibility at Huawei said:

“Joining the Together4STEM initiative will strengthen Huawei’s commitment to making STEM education more accessible and providing equal opportunities to all. Our objective is to inspire, broaden horizons and increase strong interest in the tech sector, creating a community of like-minded individuals. The platform will expand our collaboration and outreach on STEM to ensure that talents are equipped with the relevant knowledge, insights and tools to join the tech sector. We are grateful for the opportunity, and we encourage other organizations to join and share expertise to make STEM studies within everyone’s reach.”

In the platform, Huawei will contribute to foster education, talents, and jobs in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) together with Amgen and Johnson & Johnson.

Stefan Crets, CSR Europe Executive Director, welcomed Huawei’s decision and stated:

I am thrilled that Huawei has joined the collaborative platform Together 4 STEM, taking a concrete step to foster talents in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. As we witnessed during COVID-19, STEM skills are critical not only to solve complex societal issues but also to empower the next generation in a context of constant technological disruption. With Huawei, we are also enriching the offer of STEM@Home, the multilingual learning platform which provides access to free online STEM resources and tools for students and teachers alike. I hope many more companies will follow Huawei’s steps and engage with partners of Together 4 STEM to achieve impact on the ground.

Huawei has long been committed to STEM research and the promotion of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics careers, especially among young girls.

Amongst the company’s major achievements, it is worth mentioning the project DigitTruck  - a mobile classroom converted from a shipping container to help students and teachers in Kenya to develop digital skills; Storysign - a free mobile app that aims to help deaf children read by translating the text from selected books into sign language; and the ICT Academy, a platform to boost school-enterprise cooperation and promote the development of various types of ICT talent, encouraging women to take the lead in the ICT field; Seeds for the Future – an initiative to help cultivate young talent, ensuring that the tech-savvy and change-resilient young people have the skills and mindsets needed to be competitive in the workplaces of the future. The programme started in 2008 and today is present in 130 countries (500 Universities), involving more than 8700 students. In 2020, the program was moved online and reached even a great audience, 1/3 of which were women.
