At the European SDG Summit 2020, we will bring together the European policymakers behind key sustainability policies and initiatives aimed at accelerating the green and digital transformation of Europe. 

Together, we will discuss what is the status of play and next steps regarding the Green Deal, biodiversity, circular economy, supply chain due diligence, as well as NextGenerationEU, sustainable finance and taxation, the future of work and the European Skills Agenda.

Vice President, European Commission

Mr. Timmermans will participate to the inauguration of the European Pact for Sustainable Industry to highlight the key role of collaboration for the achievement of a sustainable and inclusive Europe by 2050. In a dialogue with Francesco Starace, CEO Enel, Mr. Timmermans will highlight the urgent need to integrate sustainability into the strategic planning of business, industry federations and policymakers across Europe.

Didier Reynders,

European Commissioner for Justice

Mr. Reynders will explore the transition from a volume to value economy and the role played by justice together with Johanna Sandahl, President of the European Environmental Bureau Dimitri Papalexopoulos, CEO Titan Cement, Ilham Kadri, CEO Solvay, and Enrico Falck, Chairman of Falck Renewables. Commissioner Reynders will offer new insights on the Commission’s legislative proposal for mandatory corporate environmental and human rights due diligence.

European Commissioner for Jobs and Social Rights

Commissioner Schmit will explain how the European Agenda will ensure social inclusion through upskilling and reskilling of the workforce. Schmit will also discuss the other relevant EU policies that the Commission envisaged to build back better the European economies and societies, including the  Just Transition Mechanism,  the Industrial Policy,  the European Pillar of Social Rights, and New Skills Agenda for Europe.

Pascal Canfin,

Member of the European Parliament and Chair of the European Parliaments’ Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety.

Mr. Canfin will join the debate with sustainability leaders such as Saori Dubourg, BASF Executive Director, and Enrico Giovannini, ASVIS Secretary General, on the role of finance in the Covid-19 recovery plans. Together with Sirpa Pietikäinen, member of the European Parliament’s Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs, Canfin will share the next steps in the EU strategy on sustainable finance.

Director General Jean-Eric Paquet will join high-level representatives from Enel, Huawei and Epson, to dive into the ambitions of the European Commission on circularity and digitalisation. Building on the Commission’s New Transformative Innovation Policy, the discussion will focus on how digitalization can enable a circular economy and sustainable society.
