The world's greenest countries ranked in Yale's Environmental Performance Index
The Yale Center for Environmental Law and Policy has released its first official Environmental Performance Index, the preeminent ranking of countries' dedication to environmental protection, Newsweek reports. The list uses a variety of metrics, including carbon and sulfur emissions, water purity and conservation practices, to calculate an overall score for each country. The top five countries on the list are Switzerland, Sweden, Norway, Finland and Costa Rica. Read more. (Source: Newsweek)

More women in work but 'better' jobs needed too, EU report says
Women are continuing to drive employment growth in Europe, but remain disadvantaged on the labour market in relation to men, says a report adopted by the European Commission on 23 January 2008. Despite higher educational attainment, women continue to be employed less and paid less than men. The 2008 report on Equality between women and men will be transmitted to EU leaders at the Spring Summit on 8-9 March. Renault-Nissan and Project Better Place prepare for first mass marketed electric vehicles
In a move towards reducing CO2 car emissions as well as particles pollution, the Renault-Nissan Alliance and Project Better Place in January signed an MOU for the introduction of electric vehicles into the Israeli market starting in 2011. The solution framework comes in response to the Israeli State’s challenge to the auto industry and its supply chain to migrate the country’s transportation infrastructure to renewable sources of energy. Demand for CSR jobs is blossoming
More MBA graduates are looking for jobs that exhibit at least an element of corporate social responsibility, according to recent research by Net Impact, the international non-profit organisation, and Ellen Weinreb CSR Recruiting, Financial Times reports.Based on Business for Social Responsibility’s jobs page and CSR-Chicks, a mailing list for CSR professionals, the research says there has been a 37 per cent increase per year in the number of postings for CSR jobs over the past three and a half years… Read more

In Davos, Gates calls for 'creative capitalism'
"In many crucial areas, the world is getting better... but it's not getting better fast enough, and it's not getting better for everyone," Bill Gates said in Davos on Thursday, Fortune reports. Speaking at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2008, Gates called for a more concerted global drive toward what he calls "Creative Capitalism." Electric trucks deliver Coca-Cola in Uruguay
Coca-Cola subsidiary Montevideo Refrescos SRL is using electric trucks to deliver shipments in Montevideo's urban areas. The company has received 30 Xebra electric trucks, created by California-based vehicle manufacturer Zap, that it will use to complete deliveries normally made by larger trucks in Uruguay's capital. The Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World list has been released
The fourth annual Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World list has been released, with almost one-third of the companies from last year being replaced. Started in 2005 and announced yearly at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, the Global 100 looks at the environmental, social and governance performance of companies. The list was started by media company Global Knights and research firm Innovest Strategic Value Advisors, which looks at corporations from the Morgan Stanley Capital International World stock market index and compare companies to their sector peers, looking for the best in each class… Read more
