Longer parental leave and incentives for fathers agreed by EU ministers

Parents will have the right to longer parental leave, under new rules agreed by EU ministers today. The revised Directive on Parental Leave will give each working parent the right to at least four months leave after the birth or adoption of a child (up from three months now). At least one of the four months cannot be transferred to the other parent - meaning it will be lost if not taken - offering incentives to fathers to take the leave. Business frets about growing 'water gap'

Emerging economies such as China and India should adopt strict policies to curb their water use in key sectors such as agriculture, argues a new report by McKinsey & Company, warning that increasing scarcity threatens the stability of countries in which companies operate. If no action is taken, projected population and economic growth will lead to global water demand "that is 40% in excess of current supply" and even "more than 50% higher" in the most rapidly developing countries, warns the report. Intel part of European Innovation and Creativity Camp, organized by JA-YE

TITAN joins the UN World Program in Egypt

TitanTITAN's long-term commitment to CSR is expressed through a new partnership launched in Egypt in co-operation with the United Nations World Food Program. This new and innovative initiative is aiming at adopting 2019 children and their families from the Beni Suef Region -near Cairo- identified as one of the poorest in the country. Climate change puts world at ‘tipping point’

If tipping points that are mainly triggered by rising global temperatures were unleashed, the world's diverse regions and ecosystems would suffer from devastating environmental, social and economic changes, according to a new report by WWF and Allianz. Current discussions consider global warming a process similar to a steady flow of water in our bathrooms and kitchens, where temperature goes up gradually, controlled by a turn of the tap. Does microfinance always lead to development?

A recent article in The International News in Pakistan recently pointed out that microfinance institutions are facing difficulty in meeting the target of increasing their customer base. Currently the number of low-worth borrowers fluctuated between 1.7 and 1.8 million in the last four quarters, short of a 3 million target. The article urged microfinance institutions to explore new models to increase the outreach of microfinance in the country. Big brands lagging on climate action, survey says

Consumer expectations that favourite brands are actively tackling climate change will be challenged tomorrow by a report showing that some of Britain's top corporate names, including Barclays, Amazon and Sky, are lagging behind their competitors and failing to respond to the lead set by the government. A survey of the carbon performance of 600 of the UK's biggest brands reveals that two-thirds are either increasing their greenhouse gas emissions, have targets that are weaker than the government's Copenhagen goal for carbon cuts, or are failing to put information about their carbon emissions in the public domain… Read more
