Microsoft widens its transparency with first Law Enforcement Requests Report
In response to increasing public interest about law enforcement requests and as part of its wider transparency goals, Microsoft has published its first Law Enforcement Requests Report covering all occurences in 2012. The report encompasses many well-known Microsoft platforms such as Hotmail, Outlook, SkyDrive and Xbox LIVE. The company has also made pains to produce a detailed report, which provides figures available for users to analyse and reproduce.As well as releasing the number of law enforcement requests that were made, Microsoft has also described the nature of these requests in terms of what details were released, for example the subject line of an email in Outlook or a picture stored on SkyDrive… Read more

CSR Europe delivers its first ever Stakeholder dialogue on Business and Human Rights

Western Union tackling social exclusion in Haiti through delivery of its services and technology
Western union, in a successful social venture with the government of Haiti, improves delivery of services to citizens of this island country, which still struggles to recover after 2010 eartquake and effects of Hurricane Tomas.The Western Union service will enable parents with school-age children, university students and senior citizens to access government and emergency payments at more than 600 Western Union Agent locations across Haiti. EC introductory guide on human rights for SMEs now available in 28 languages
The European Commission (EC) has now published its existing introductory guide on human rights for small and medium-sized companies (SMEs) in 28 languages. As well as all EU languages, the guide has been translated into Croatian, Chinese, Japanese, Turkish and Ukrainian.The EC's guide aims to transform the UN Guiding Principles on Human Rights into concrete advice for SMEs, which will allow them to integrate human rights mechanisms throughout their operations, whether in addressing employees' concerns or the standards of their supply chains… Read more

CSR Europe interviews Monique Meche, Vice President, Government Affairs and Corporate Social Responsibility at ArcelorMittal
During last year's Enterprise 2020 summit, CSR Europe interviewed Monique Meche, Vice President, Government Affairs and Corporate Social Responsibility at ArcelorMittal. In the interview, Monique Meche details the success of ArcelorMittal's top-down policy on human rights, where 200,000 employees have already received human rights training, as well as the future prospects of the company in terms of jobs and innovation, which ArcelorMittal is boosting through its intensive investment in research and development.

European CSR Award Scheme moving to selection stage
Throughout the majority of the European CSR Award Scheme participating countries, the call for entries are closing and the selection stage has begun. A call for entries is still open, however, in Kosovo, Montenegro, Switzerland, Turkey and Ukraine.All national winners of the first ever pan-European award scheme will be celebrated on 25th June 2013 in Brussels. European Commission kick-starts ICT skills drive
On 4-5 March 2013 the European commission launched the Grand Coalition for Digital Jobs, marking the beginning of a drive to boost the number of skilled ICT workers across Europe. The coalition has already received pledges from CSR Europe members including SAP, Telefonica, HP and Microsoft, who will work in conjunction with a range of other companies and actors to equip a new generation of students with the ICT skills that businesses need.European figures indicate that there may be as many as 900,000 job vacancies in the ICT sector by 2015, with the number currently growing at more than 100,000 per year… Read more

'Team Chemistry' harnessed to spur game day innovation
In cooperation with the University of Michigan Athletic Department, BASF have brought social innovation to the sports field. The chemical company is challenging students to set their 'team chemistry' to work in helping alleviate the environmental impact of a game day.Possible solutions can range from producing innovative architectural designs to improving the game day operations and entries will be judged by a panel of BASF and U-M representatives. Italian National Action Plan on CSR goes to Commission
The Italian government recently sent its National Action Plan on CSR 2012 - 2014 to the European Commission, which outlined the future direction of CSR in Italy, the governments response to the EC's recommendations, and the role of stakeholders, including our national partners Impronta Etica and Fondazione Sodalitas.The plan aims to build upon existing practices whilst further enhancing relationships with multiple stakeholders to accelerate the progress being made on widening CSR participation. Volkswagen announces ambitious target to cut new fleet's CO2 emissions
With the aim of becoming the "world's most environmentally sustainable automaker by 2018", Volkswagen Group has given itself the ambitious target of further cutting CO2 emissions in its European new car fleet, down to 95g/km by 2020.Volkswagen is the first car manufacturer to make the pledge, which will build upon the considerable work the company has already done to minimise its carbon footprint. Well on the way to producing a fleet that emits less than 120 grams per kilometer by 2015, Volkswagen expects to exceed the legal requirement on CO2 emissions by more than 12 grams… Read more
