Volkswagen and LichtBlick agree on energy partnership

VolkswagenVolkswagen and the energy company LichtBlick have signed a worldwide exclusive energy agreement on September 9, 2009. VW will produce small high efficient combined heat and power generators called "EcoBlue" which are powered by gas engines form own production. LichtBlick will be responsible for the distribution of these small and eco-friendly generators to individual households. The energy partnership paves the way for a new intelligent concept of heat and electricity supply. Volkswagen again listed in important sustainability indices

VolkswagenAs in the previous year, Volkswagen is ranked in the Dow Jones Sustainability Word Index and in the Dow Jones Sustainability STOXX. Volkswagen was especially successful in the areas of innovation management, health protection, job safety and sustainability-communication. But also VW's climate change strategy and its social engagement were responsible for the high ratings in both indices. Ireland's first Public Exhibition on Corporate Responsibility Launched as part of National CR Week 2009

Employees from 25 separate companies were on 7 October recognised for their outstanding contribution to society and to their workplace. The employees are part of a public portrait exhibition on Responsible Business which was opened today in the CHQ building in the IFSC. The exhibition was part of the launch of Business in the Community Ireland's third annual National Corporate Responsibility Week 2009 which showcases best practice Corporate Responsibility in Ireland and encourages more businesses to get involved in such practices. Intel and Government of Macedonia announce joint plans to improve quality of education

IntelIntel Corporation and the government of Macedonia have signed two new documents to help advance the 1:1 e-learning model in the country's schools, raising the bar for educational technology in the Balkan region. Intel's contribution will include training 1,000 teachers to integrate technology into the curriculum, localizing and licensing teacher training materials, providing teacher guides, and qualifying master trainers for scaling the program throughout Macedonia. ArcelorMittal wins a climate change award in Brazil

ArcelorMittalArcelorMittal Brazil was recently presented with the Época Award for Climate Change. The award recognises companies for their plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and is an initiative to encourage companies in Brazil to promote sustainable business activities. ArcelorMittal focuses on malaria prevention in India

ArcelorMittalArcelorMittal India has organised awareness camps on malaria, covering its causes, its treatment and its prevention, in collaboration with the district malaria unit in Keonjhar. The camps kicked off the company's programme of distributing medical mosquito nets as well as raising awareness about malaria to local communities and villages. EU mulls carbon tax to curb global warming

The European Commission is considering imposing an EU-wide tax on CO2 emissions on sectors such as transport and agriculture, which are currently not covered by the bloc's cap-and-trade scheme for carbon dioxide, EurActiv has learnt. The proposed amendment of the 2003 Energy Taxation Directive would oblige member states to levy a CO2 tax on fuels in order to cut emissions. The Commission reckons that the EU's policy framework has "changed radically" since the adoption of the existing legislation, which it wants to bring in line with the bloc's ambitious climate goals… Read more
