Telcos need more sustainable innovation - Covalence Telecommunication Sector Report 2010
The telecommunication sector is less controversial than others but has to increase its offering of sustainable products and services for being a leader, according to a report by Geneva-based ethical reputation research firm Covalence EthicalQuote. While telecommunication companies are strong on philanthropy, charity giving, and community investments, they show a weak amount of positive news on products compared to the 18 sectors. The challenge for these companies is to explore new ways to valorize the social and environmental value of their products and services, such as services helping elderly people at home; facilitating internet use in developing countries; e-government; requirement of greener products from manufacturers of mobile devices; facilitating recycling of electronic devices; codes of conduct to help consumers understand contracts; and protecting children and teens from Internet abuses… Read more

GRI: Sweden and Denmark lead the way in sustainability reporting
A report from Uppsala University in Sweden shows that the Swedish government requirement which requires state-owned companies to present sustainability reports based on the GRI guidelines has resulted in improved reporting procedures in these companies, according to the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI). Furthermore, the involvement, awareness and expertise of boards and management have also increased. 42 per cent of French want SRI info on savings, study says
A survey of French attitudes to the sale of general retail savings funds has found that 42% of respondents said they would like to know the sustainability characteristics of a product before choosing whether or not to invest, Responsible Investor reports. The survey, commissioned by Eiris and carried out by Ipsos, found that 18% of the respondents were not interested in sustainability factors, 22% were indifferent and 19% didn't know.Of the 42% interested in sustainability aspects, 57% said they would take SRI criteria into account for their next saving or investment decision… Read more

Polish Schools for Sustainable Development Receive Awards from Toyota
Five Polish schools participating in the Schools for Sustainable Development Programme were recognised for their creativity in engaging with their local communities at an awards ceremony held in Warsaw, Poland on 8 September 2010. The prizes were presented by the Toyota Fund for Europe (TFfE) and Toyota Poland. Toyota: First T-TEP Automotive Lab opens in Portugal
The Oporto High School of Engineering (ISEP) became the first university in Portugal to be equipped with a fully operational Automotive Lab in March 2010. The facility was created as part of Toyota’s Technical Education Program (T-TEP) and features state-of-the-art technical and teaching equipment. The new lab will enable students to study for a degree in Automotive Mechanical Engineering in a real-life workshop environment. Through its partnerships with Toyota Caetano Portugal (TCAP) and companies such as Audatex, Lusilectra or SGS, ISEP has equipped the lab with the most technologically advanced diagnostic and tri-dimensional chassis measurement devices… Read more

Panasonic sponsors cyclists for Ty Hafan Childrens' Hospice in Wales
Panasonic Manufacturing UK Ltd Cardiff sponsored 22 employees to take part in the Ty Hafan 28 mile (43km) Cycle Challenge to raise funds for the Ty Hafan Hospice which was established in 1999 to care for children in Wales who suffer from life-limiting conditions and has the Royal Highness Prince Charles of Wales as its patron. 80% of the Stoxx50 companies cover Diversity in their 2009 Annual Reports
80% of the Stoxx50 companies cover diversity in their 2009 Annual Reports, 92% in their CSR Reports. These figures show an increase of 4% in annual reporting in comparison to 2007. These are results of the 2010 edition of a study on Diversity in Stoxx50 Corporate Reporting by European Diversity Research and Consulting. The study also shows that the nature of many reports has significantly changed. Since 2007, the number of companies discussing achievements as a result of previously implemented diversity programmes has increased, whilst subsequently the presentation of mere activities has fallen… Read more
