Volkswagen intends to make production 25 percent more environmentally compatible by 2018
As part of its "Think Blue. Factory." Initiative, the Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand has set itself clear targets for the environmentally sustainable positioning of all its plants. By 2018, the environmental impact of all Volkswagen plants is to be reduced by 25 percent. BASF plays significant role in development of European Water Stewardship standard
Companies and agricultural organizations can use a Europe-wide standard to assess the sustainability of their water management practices. The European Water Stewardship standard was jointly developed over a three-year period by NGOs, governments and businesses – with a significant role played by BASF. “BASF’s water experts worked on the entire process and made a key contribution to the development of the European Water Stewardship standard”, said Friedrich Barth, deputy chairman of the European Water Partnership (EWP), an independent NGO that initiated and coordinated the project… Read more

Cargill supports development of first Ukrainian Food Bank
As part of Cargill’s commitment to provide safe, nutritious and accessible food supplies in its local communities, Cargill has provided funding totalling U.S.$50,000 (UAH 400300) to help the development of a food bank based in Kiev, Ukraine.A food bank is a not-for-profit organisation that collects, stores, and distributes useable surplus food to social organisations, who in turn distribute or serve it to people in need in their local communities.Cargill’s funding will be used to help pay for a refrigerated van, truck rental and other immediate start up costs such as insurance, supplies and warehouse rental… Read more

IBM sets patent record
IBM has announced announced that it set a new U.S. patent record in 2011, marking the 19th consecutive year that the company has led the annual list of patent recipients. IBM inventors earned a record 6,180 U.S. patents in 2011.More than 8,000 IBMers residing in 46 different U.S. states and 36 countries are responsible for the company's record-breaking 2011 patent tally. EU Consultation on delivering more sustainable consumption and production
The European Commission wants to gather views and additional information on the possible introduction of EU wide measures related to Sustainable Consumption and Production. The consultation also looks at Green Public Procurement (GPP), the Environmental Footprint of Products (PEF) and the Environmental Footprint of Organisations (OEF).
