China and India endorse Copenhagen Climate Accord

China and India joined almost all other major greenhouse gas emitters on 9th March in signing up to the climate accord struck in Copenhagen, boosting a deal strongly favored by the United States. Accenture Study: Consumers want governments to address climate change

New research by Accenture shows that 85 percent of global consumers believe more government intervention in the energy market is the solution to reducing reliance on fossil fuels and addressing energy challenges.The online study, titled "The New Energy World, A Consumer Perspective", asked 9,005 consumers from 22 countries what they think about energy, climate change, and efforts to address them.  Although 90 percent voiced great concern over increasing energy costs, only one-third of the respondents think that reduction in energy use is the answer… Read more

IBM’s World Community Grid’s computing strength powers breakthrough research that will guide the development of new class of AIDS drugs

A team of researchers at the renowned Scripps Research Institute has discovered two new compounds that prove the existence of new binding sites on HIV protease.  Associate Professor C. David Stout, senior author of the study, explained "These results open the door to a whole new approach to drug design against HIV protease," which is an enzyme used by HIV to create new, infectious viral particles.  This experimental breakthrough will serve as the basis for new drug development to combat the increasing number of drug-resistant HIV strains and to improve the potency of current drug therapies… Read more

BT’s Inspiring Young Minds China programme yields encouraging results

Since the official start of Inspiring Young Minds in China in May 2009, the programme has seen encouraging results by providing basic network infrastructure for forty schools in Qinghai, Ningxia, Yunnan and Jiangxi provinces in south-western China.  The programme distributes computers and multimedia equipment as well as providing training programs for local teachers. IBM and Stanford University unveil green chemistry breakthrough that could lead to new types of environmentally sustainable plastics

In a paper published in the American Chemical Society journal, Macromolecules, scientists from IBM and Stanford University detail discoveries that could lead to the development of new types of biodegradable, biocompatible plastics. Volkswagen Group recruiting some 6,000 university graduates and apprentices worldwide in 2010

This year, the Volkswagen Group will be recruiting 3,000 university graduates worldwide, of which one third will be hired in Germany. In addition, 2,900 young people will begin their vocational training with the Group during the current year. The total number of apprentices will top the 10,000 mark for the first time this year.
