Chambers Ireland: Responsible Business Practice Can Help Improve Ireland’s Global Reputation

Business Action on Health Publishes 2011 Report

Visualisation and Open Data in Helsinki
In the fall of 2011, a team of six IBM experts spent three weeks in Helsinki as part of IBM’s Smarter Cities Challenge program. The program brings together an interdisciplinary team to focus on a challenge faced by a city. In the case of Helsinki, the City wanted to make the most of two opportunities. One was that Helsinki had just begun to implement an open data strategy to make city data available to its citizens. Recommendations of the IBM Smarter Cities Challenge Programme completed
Helsinki, the only Nordic city chosen for the worldwide IBM Smarter Cities Challenge programme, has received a report prepared by an international working group. Within the scope of the cooperation project, the expert group compiled information on open data available in Helsinki and prepared recommendations on possibilities of integrating and visualizing data. The Coca-Cola Company to take digital approach to sustainability reporting
The Coca-Cola Company released its eighth system wide sustainability report, titled Reasons to Believe. In the company’s effort to increase transparency, this year’s report was created using stakeholder feedback and follows the disclosure and reporting requirements of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) to a self-declared grade level “B+.”.The four main areas of focus include water stewardship, energy efficiency and climate protection, sustainable packaging and healthy communities… Read more

Microsoft, Coke, Nestle Detail Climate Adaptation Plans
Microsoft, Coca-Cola, Levi’s, Nestle and Starbucks are among a slew of multinational companies listed in an online database just launched by the U.N. that details how the world’s major firms plan to address global warming.There are currently around 100 examples of strategies listed in the UNFCCC Private Sector Initiative database, which the body says are both practical and in many cases scalable.Examples of best practice include Coca-Cola’s efforts to conserve water in Asia and Starbucks’ attempts to improve the yield of coffee beans in regions that are particularly vulnerable to climate change… Read more
