For our industries to remain competitive and to drive innovation we need to address the shortage in the talent pipeline across the STEM fields. Europe lacks diversity in STEM and consequently its development is at risk of becoming unsustainable.
Collaborative initiatives have the potential to promote diversity and inclusiveness in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) professions ultimately improving the competitiveness of European industries.
For this reason, in the last 6 months CSR Europe and 4 leading companies in the STEM fields (IBM, Samsung Electronics, Amgen, Johnson & Johnson) developed a pilot project of the collaborative business platform “Together for STEM - European Business Platform for inclusive STEM”.
Our commitment and actions for inclusive STEM fields will actively contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals, with focus on Quality Education, Gender Equality, Decent work and Economic growth. Our group mission is to accelerate and scale up business initiatives to promote diversity and inclusiveness in STEM education and professions through sustainable business collaboration in Europe.
As we are nearing the end of the pilot phase, we are looking forward to building a long-time partnership for driving the inclusiveness and diversity into the STEM fields.
Our vision for engagement is based on three levels to create systematic change and practical actions:
1. Optimizing STEM initiatives within the companies through learning and sharing among peers
2. Creating an improved STEM offer for young people at local level through practical actions
3. Engaging with policy makers at local and EU level for smart policy in the area of STEM education
