CSR Europe to Launch European Business Toolbox for Just Transition

PRESS RELEASE

BRUSSELS (Belgium), February 1, 2023 - CSR Europe is set to present the European Business Toolbox for Just Transition at the launch event on February 21st between 10:30-12PM CET. The online event will see the participation of European policymakers like Fabien Dell, Member of Cabinet of Nicolas Schmit, European Commission (DG EMPL), and industry leaders like Hitachi and Solvay.

According to the International Labour Organisation, a Just Transition for all is a process towards an environmentally sustainable economy. It needs to be well managed and contribute to the goals of decent work for all, social inclusion and the eradication of poverty. The toolbox, developed in collaboration with Boston Consulting Group (BCG), aims at facilitating the implementation of the European Business Roadmap for Just Transition – released last year by the CSR Europe People Leadership Hub. The practical methodologies included in the toolbox support businesses in:

  • Implementing a comprehensive stakeholder plan for Just Transition

  • Building a Just Transition narrative within companies’ strategy

  • Embedding a Just Transition Strategy into the business model

With the document, CSR Europe advocates the development of a European Social Green Deal that puts people at the core of business transformation, leaving no one behind.

Stefan Crets, Executive Director at CSR Europe, said:

“Environmental and Just Transition must go hand in hand if we want to overcome inequality. This is why we advocate for a Green Social Deal that leaves none behind, especially the younger generations who are exposed the most. With this toolbox, CSR Europe aims to equip businesses with the right tools to set strategies and methodologies for a fair transformation.”

Marco Tonegutti, Managing Director & Senior Partner at BCG, said:

“Companies need to take a structured approach to tackle inequalities and enable for a truly Green and Just Transition. This transformation needs to be based on four pillars: purpose, stakeholder dialogue, scientific measurement and organization mobilization. The toolbox wants to practically support companies in this journey.”
