CSR Europe Launches New Atelier Series on Sustainability Reporting

  • The Markets Atelier series “Your A-Z Guide to Sustainability Reporting” kicks off on 26th April, with a first session in-person in Brussels on “Implementing the Double Materiality Principle”.

  • The series in open only to CSR Europe corporate members. The next two events will address the interoperability between reporting frameworks and the challenges of reporting when it comes to the whole value chain.

In the last years, the landscape of sustainability reporting has undergone significant changes, driven in large part by the introduction of the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and the development of European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS). These EU measures have transformed the way companies approach sustainability reporting, creating new opportunities and challenges.

CSR Europe’s Markets Atelier Series “You’re a-Z Guide to Sustainability Reporting” aims at demystifying the upcoming requirements – some of which will be applicable as early as 2024 - and empowering corporate members to align and comply with the CSRD and the ESRS.

The first of the three session in programme will focus on the implementation of the double materiality principle and will take place in person at the CSR Europe headquarters, on 26th April, between 14:30-18:00 CET.

In the past, the materiality principle in sustainability reporting focused solely on the impact of external risks to the internal business (outside-in). However, the materiality assessment is now evolving to include another crucial dimension. In the 2025 sustainability reports on the financial year 2024, companies must also consider the impact of their business on the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) dimension of sustainability (inside-out). This dual approach means that companies must now consider the positive and negative impacts they have on sustainability as a whole. It is no longer enough to only focus on mitigating risks – businesses must also consider how they can contribute positively to sustainability.

Participating corporate members will explore with us this new dimension of the materiality principle in greater detail. Our experts will provide insights into how companies can effectively evaluate their sustainability impact, and offer guidance on how to incorporate this approach into their materiality assessment.

Next steps:

To maximise this learning experience, CSR Europe corporate members are also invited to register to the next two Atelier sessions on:

  1. Aligning the ESRS with International Reporting Frameworks, taking place online on 21 SEPTEMBER, 10:30-12:00 CET.

  2. Overcoming the Challenges of Value Chain Reporting, taking place online on 07 DECEMBER, 10:30-12:00 CET.

Based on how the EU policy will move forward this year, CSR Europe will conclude the Atelier series either with a webinar dedicated to how companies can address the challenges related to reporting across the whole value chain or a webinar on how to integrate expectations on digital reporting.
