THE CHALLENGE

In nature, all animals, plants and elements work together in an ecosystem to survive and thrive. This balance, however, is currently disrupted by the rapid loss of biodiversity, caused by industrial activity, mono-culture, loss of natural habitats and global warming.

In the post COVID-19 context, the new EU Biodiversity Strategy for 2030 and its associated Action Plan are at the core of the Green Deal and support a green recovery to build our societies’ resilience to future threats.

OUR APPROACH

Between 2020-2022, the collaborative platform Biodiversity & Industry supported companies in tackling biodiversity pressure points across the value chain with a double approach aimed at:

  • Minimising negative impacts on biodiversity

  • Maximising new business opportunities with nature-based solutions

Companies were able to understand:

  • What is ‘material’ to their company in relation to biodiversity

  • How to assess the impact of a planned project or investment

  • How to develop effective strategies and adapt management processes to integrate biodiversity

WHAT WE DELIVERED

  • Benchmark 2.0 with a confidential biodiversity rating.

  • Standard Framework to assess the value chain impact of a planned intervention, such as a new factory, road etc. and practical guidance with implementation.

  • Blueprint on how to measure your company’s impact on biodiversity & how to implement countermeasures.

  • Visibility of your company and its contribution to strategic EU discussions.

  • Learning and Sharing Network.

  • Biodiversity Maturity and Integration Model to integrate biodiversity in management processes.

  • EU Regulatory Updates with regular follow-up will provide updates on the fast-moving EU regulatory agenda concerning biodiversity.
