Corporate Foundation
A Tool for Systematisation of Philantropic Activities.
Organisation Name
Orange Slovensko (Slovakia)
Problem
Since its incorporation, Orange Slovensko has made an effort to ensure that its activities are also of benefit to society. As the amount of money allocated to community activities escalated, the company realised that it needed to systemise this process.
Solution
Orange Slovensko founded Konto Orange, a non-profit investment fund, in 2002. Its mission is to carry out meaningful projects and activities which support different groups of people with different needs. The foundation identified some priority areas for action and systematically supports numerous projects focused on:
- Education and leisure activities.
- Regional development.
- The provision of long-term support for the civic association Návrat (Return), which works within the theme of foster family care. This partnership aims to place parentless children with foster families so they can grow up in a natural environment.
- Charitable endeavours. The majority of funding for charity is disbursed through open grant programmes as the foundation believes this is the most transprent form of disbursement. Konto also organises mobile charitable collections as a way of fundraising and 100% of money collected is directed into the project.
Konto Orange has two main sources of income from Orange Slovakia in the form of: (i) gifts and (ii) receipt of a 2% tax assignation. This form of financing is possible due to legislative changes in 2003.
Constraints
Difficult positioning of Konto Orange because to all intents and purposes it is neither a company nor an NGO.
Benefits
- Systematic support of different groups of people.
- Cooperation of business and non-business sectors.
- Effective and transparent utilisation of the 2% tax assignation.
