Employee Engagement
Grant Programme for Employees of Orange Slovensko
Organisation Name
Orange Slovensko (Slovakia)
Problem
Orange Slovensko carried out numerous activities for different groups of people through its non-investment fund Konto Orange. However, its employees were not involved in these activities.
Solution
- Orange Slovensko recognised the need to involve employees in its philanthropic activities.
- The company decided to announce a grant programme to which only employees could apply. As many employees were found to be volunteering in their local communities, it seemed logical to employ this "regional" approach.
- The goal of the grant programme is to support a cause close to the employee (applicant).
- Employees will be personally involved in all stages of the programme. Contributions can be both financial or non financial, e.g. know-how, volunteer work, etc.
- Orange Slovensko announced the Employee grant programme for the first time in May, 2004. The company received 43 applications of which 39 were supported by a total sum of 700,000 SKK.
- A lot of work has been carried out with great enthusiasm from employees, prompting the company to continue the programme. In 2005 the 2nd round was announced. The number of applications was almost doubled, with 75 project proposals received, 40 of which were supported by a total sum of 700,000 SKK.
- This year (2006), the grant programme will be offered for a 3rd time.
Constraints
- Original execution of the project through co-operating organisations was carried out without personal involvement of the employees.
Benefits
- Increasing knowledge about philanthropy among employees.
- Support of active employees.
- Increasing loyalty of employees towards Orange Slovensko.
- Regional development through local projects that are close to the employee.
