Women in Leadership Positions
The Women in Leadership Positions working group was initiated by Sony in 2005 to explore innovative tools for further promoting gender diversity in the company. Areas of focus discussed with group members have included:
- The business case for gender diversity, particularly the attraction and retention of women in leadership positions
- Innovative policy and practical initiatives implemented in this area
- Appropriate Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) used to measure progress
Participants of this working group have included Sony, Canon, Groupe Danone, DaimlerChrysler Financial Services, IBM, Intel, Janssen Pharmaceutica, Microsoft, STMicroelectronics, TNT, Toyota and Vattenfall.
The working group has published a Practitioners' Report to capture all the data and learning shared to date. It has also launched a cross-sectoral mentoring programme for aspiring women.
After two very successful years of knowledge-sharing the existing group has now disbanded. However, following the successful pilot phase of the mentoring programme, this element of the working group continues. IBM and Danone have now begun preparations for the second phase of the mentoring programme which will be launched in April 2009.
