Business in the Community
Profile
Founded in 1982, Business in the Community (BITC) is an independent business-led charity with the objective to mobilise business for good, working with companies to build a sustainable future for people and planet. BITC is a membership organisation working through 11 Regional offices in the UK, including Northern Ireland and Wales, as well as participating in over 110 international partnerships via our CSR360 Global Partner Network.
Our approach to responsible business provides a framework to support and challenge business to improve its performance and benefit society through our four areas of expertise - community, environment, workplace and marketplace.
Mission
Our purpose is to inspire, engage, support and challenge companies to continually improve the impact they have on society. Membership is a public commitment of this intent and support for the growing movement of responsible business practice.
We ask members to:
- - Integrate responsible business, across all areas of their operations locally and internationally
- - Collaborate to tackle key social issues in areas of greatest need
- - Communicate and inspire others by sharing their experiences and encouraging more to follow their example
Activities
Our members work collaboratively to address key social issues and the needs of their local communities in relation to education, employability and economic renewal.
We support and engage our members to reduce their carbon emissions through The Prince's May Day Network on Climate change.
We support and engage our members in how a company innovates, sources and markets their products and services to ensure they generate revenue with integrity.
We support and engage our members to speed up the introduction of responsible and inclusive employment practices and meeting the UK's talent challenge.
Business in the Community has eleven regional teams across the UK providing a range of brokerage services with local knowledge, experience and networks
The International Campaign at Business in the Community mobilises business for good on international corporate responsibility issues.
Using BITC's expertise and working through a range of partners, government, NGOs and others, the International Campaign calls business to action to address the key social, environmental and economic challenges facing global society.
It aims to inspire, support and challenge business to increase their positive impact in the markets where they operate and through their employees, suppliers, and customers and therefore being a catalyst for change.
