Project Description
By setting up and running a sector specific laboratory, EuroCommerce aims to create an added value for its members while at the same time complementing the laboratories of the Alliance which are already in place. The laboratory will focus on social issues in the wider sense such as employment, education and health and safety. Another activity with a social impact is giving, sponsoring etc. The main activity of the laboratory will be to examine concrete fields of local engagement and to elaborate guidance for companies on how to become active and to attain their specific goals. The following areas will be treated:
- Giving/sponsoring/partnering/fundraising
- Employment
- Education
- Health and safety
Objectives
The overall strategic goal of the laboratory is to enhance the commerce sector's visibility in the business community and to further promote EuroCommerce as a key player in the field of CSR at European level.
The laboratory on local engagement will be a helpful means to raise awareness and motivate traders to get actively engaged in their communities and thereby contribute to the sustainable development of their surroundings. Furthermore, the laboratory will give concrete incentives to companies which are not engaged at local level yet to do so and to unlock the potential that even small companies have in the field of CSR.
Finally, and most important, the laboratory aims to come up with a practical tool which provides companies with good guidance on how to get engaged in their communities so that their engagement will be crowned with success.
Deliverable
The laboratory's deliverable will be a comprehensive brochure, the "Commerce companies' guidebook for local engagement", of 10 to maximum 15 pages which will give companies concise and practice-oriented advice. The guidebook will contain a list of goals and tools for each of the four fields covered. Furthermore, it will include verified good practice cases and a list of related "do's" and "don'ts". The cases will be complemented by a brief testimonial from a stakeholder in order to highlight the stakeholder dimension of the laboratory.
This brochure will be available in two formats: firstly, an electronic version in pdf-format which can be downloaded on the internet (EuroCommerce's "CSR in Commerce" website and websites of EuroCommerce members as well as the European Alliance for CSR). Secondly, for PR reasons, there will also be a print edition which could be handed over to Commissioners, MEPs, the press etc. At least three language versions will be available: English, French and German.
