Profile

The Hungarian Association for Environmentally Aware Management (KÖVET) was founded in 1995 as:  

  • A non-profit and non-governmental association with public benefit status, and with a primary membership of companies.
  • An institution to raise awareness, spread the idea and tools of environmental management and corporate social responsibility.
  • An organisation experienced in implementing small and large scale EU and other public financed projects.
  • A professional organisation that provides assistance for small and large businesses on the way towards sustainable development.
  • A forum for environmental management leaders and ISO 14001 certified companies.
  • A club of socially responsible corporations.
  • An independent and pragmatic green NGO, seeking solutions instead of conflicts.
  • The organisation acts as a platform for ongoing information exchange.
  • KÖVET gives assistance for organisations to work sustainably through strengthening their environmental awareness and social responsibility.
  • Our long-term goal is to assist organisations to become sustainable and responsible for the society.

Mission

The main objective of KÖVET is to assist organisations on the road to sustainable development.

Activities

  • Annual conference: Every year we organise our annual conference and Environmental Saving Award ceremony for about 150 participants
  • Trainings: We hold trainings and experience exchanges for professionals regarding green office, environmentally aware management, internal audit, environmental communication, environmental performance evaluation, products and LCA and environmental savings                                                             
  • Company site visits: We organise about 4-5 company site visits every year for business people and students, so they can share knowledge, and see other companies operation. Each visit is organised around different topics, e.g. communication, packaging, LCA, stakeholder involvement, etc                  
  • Consulting: We have several tools, including ecomapping for SMEs, ISO 14001/EMAS Easy implementation for SMEs, green office programme, developing environmental performance evaluation system, product life cycle assessment, trainings for workers, verification of environmental and sustainability reports, benchmark
  • Sustainability ratings: The "Sustainability Rating of Organisations" evaluates how the company is related to sustainability on an easy-to-understand scale. It classifies the company on a five-grade scale from the perspective of the effects on local economy, environmental responsibility and social responsibility
  • Publications: KÖVET has more than 20 handbooks published, mainly in Hungarian, and some of them in English together with INEM
  • Databases: KÖVET gathers data on environmentally related issues. We maintain a list of: Hungarian ISO 14001 certified companies, Hungarian environmental and sustainability reports, Environmentally friendly office supplies
