Overview of activities in 2008
On 10 June, the annual statutory meeting provided participants with an overview of CSR Europe's activities in 2008 (PDF), including the launch of CSR Europe's Toolbox and pan-European cooperation projects, among other examples. Additional documents are available to GA representatives here.
Can you teach a caterpillar to fly?
The annual meeting was followed by inspiring insight into change management and transformational leadership by Jan Bommerez, the author of the best-selling books "Can You Teach a Caterpillar to Fly?" and "Flow and Peak: Performance in Business". The presentation is available below (member login required).
Young ideas for sustainable business
The session also provided insight into the young generation's views on responsible business provided by Junior Achievement Young Enterprise (JA-YE) Europe and the European Commission's YOUR WORLD, YOUR BUSINESS initiative on responsible entrepreneurship as well as through a poster exhibition on ideas for responsible products and services by students of the Louvain School of Management.
Shaping 2020 together
On 11 June, the creative working session organised using Cap Gemini's Accelerated Solutions Environment (ASE), a concept based on stimulating group creativity and collaboration, focused on the future of responsible business - and what we need to do today to be prepared for tomorrow.
The creative session marked the start of a wide consultation and participation process throughout 2009 to contribute to shaping a framework for responsible enterprise 2020, to be launched in March 2010 as part of a project coordinated by CSR Europe with support from the European Commission and several European national governments.
A new culture of ethics?
The closing session of the event featured a high-level contribution by the European Commission President José Manuel Barroso.
Calling for a "new culture of ethics and responsibility", Barroso stressed the importance of re-building trust in business. In his speech (PDF) he also encouraged companies to take advantage of the long-term business opportunities created by the shift to the low carbon economy in Europe.
