Demographic Change

Regions and companies alike are faced with the aggressive challenge of confronting and properly addressing the issues associated with demographic changes. An aging population, for instance, presents companies and nations with urgent challenges associated with health care risks, among other things. This Laboratory employs innovative dialogue formats to exchange perspectives and develop solutions to aid companies and regions in tackling this challenge.

Project Description

Demographic change, whether in Europe or worldwide, is one of the major issues that needs to be addressed as part of the sustainability agenda; indeed, it is a matter of serious concern for policy makers, business, and society. The Laboratory aims to assess the tasks that face European companies as part of a joint process looking at the specific challenges facing the regions and the individual companies and the approaches being taken, as well as the crucial political and social strategies. The Lab focuses on different dialogue formats to exchange views with stakeholders and to jointly develop solutions for successfully tackling these challenges.

Objectives

  • Raise awareness for demographic challenges with regard to business via dialogue with stakeholders
  • Discuss tasks which face the European companies looking at the specific challenges facing the regions and the political and social strategies
  • Provide practical support to companies, particularly in the regions facing the greatest changes in demography
  • Strengthen European companies' competitiveness and
  • Contribute to the European Commission's CSR Alliance

Deliverables

  1. The Online-Tool "Demographic Risk Map" (Available at www.demographic-risk-map.eu)
  2. Online-Forum: www.demographicchange.info
    • The online forum will host the multitude of materials produced and processed by this Laboratory participants
    • It will act as a hub of information and networking for companies, organisations, and governments interested in addressing this momentous task

  3. Regional Atlas on Demographic Location Risk
    • This will provide a more detailed explanation of the opportunities and risks faced by the individual regions of Europe

  4. Development of Workshops throughout Europe:
    • By establishing a series of national- and region-level workshops, the LAB is able to tabulate the various and differentiated strategies and methods of stakeholder dialogue
