Profile

Croatian Business Council for Sustainable Development (HR BCSD) promotes sustainable development in the private sector and represents business on the issue of sustainable development. It was founded in 1997 by leading Croatian businesses. Member-founders associate their know-how, experience, capability and responsibility into a shared commitment to sustainable development aiming to balance the economic growth, social welfare and environmental safety.

The organisation represents business in­te­rest in relation to environment and society in matters that cannot be individually solved. It advocates an open complementary collaboration with other social groups on the common task of sustainable development.

Mission

With our activities and achievements the member of the HR BCSD will continue to contribute to better understanding and implementation of sustainable development. We will continue our joint efforts to improve the en­vi­ron­mental laws and regulations, to upgrade their implementation in business sector and to develop the dialogue with authorities and  contribute to strengthening the business case for sustainable development in Croatia and throughout the CEE Region. We will promote open discussion on sustainable development with all the stakeholders on different levels. We will try to establish an efficient dialogue with the government on issues where business can offer a major contribution. We will take care to ensure that the capabilities, in­ven­tiveness and know-how of business are efficiently used in creating a better and more equitable world.

Activities

The Croatian Business Council on Sustainable Development provides:

  • Tools on eco-efficiency, social responsibility and stakeholder dialogue for business
  • Best practice exchange of member companies which include environmental and social concerns into their business operations
  • Support of CSR strategy and activity development through workshops focused on management systems, implementation of environmental laws and regulations, among others.
  • Dialogue with stakeholders in Croatia through campaings like the "Campaign for change of taxation in municipal waste
  • Resources for members such as the bilingual annual publication on Sustainable Development in the Economic Journal
