Cargill awarded ISPO Certification for sustainable palm oil production

CargillCargill's palm oil plantation, PT Hindoli, in Indonesia has been awarded the Indonesia Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO) certification. Audi AG joins initiative for sustainable aluminium standard

VolkswagenAudi AG have announced their membership of the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative, set up in late 2012 to create a sustainability standard for aluminium.  The project aims to produce a standard which details the sustainability of aluminium's lifecycle and which covers all aspects, from the extraction to the processing procedures.Audi has already developed an all-encompassing review of its environmental impact, analysing how the raw materials it gathers impact the environmental and guaging the effect of both production and the finished vehicle… Read more

SITA staff in Beirut collect donations for BASSMA

SITAIn December 2012, SITA's Beirut office held a collection drive to gather essential food and clothing for the regional charity BASSMA.  The charity fights poverty in Lebanon by helping vulnerable families to gain financial and psychological independence.  Working across the political and religious spectrum, BASSMA has developed a comprehensive rehabilitation program, which includes access to education and healthcare as well as support in finding a job and in everyday needs.  SITA staff were able to contribute to the provision of food and clothes thanks to their successful campaign… Read more

Western Union to give $500,000 for education in Mexico

Western UnionWestern Union has recently announced that it will be contribute $500,000 to the Education and Economic Development Programs of the US-Mexico Foundation.  The fund focuses particularly on marginalised communities in Mexico and provides the opportunity for young people in those communities to get a decent education.The long term goal is to increase the number of young Mexicans going into both secondary and further education, providing the skilled workforce that the country needs to sustain and improve its impressive growth in the future… Read more

New project prompts easier insulin access in Nigeria

Novo NordiskOn 5 March, Novo Nordisk launched a new project to enhance the quality and accessibility of diabetes treatment in Nigeria, where an alarming number of people are developing type 2 diabetes every day. The project is part of Novo Nordisk’s Base of the Pyramid programme (BoP) which has been established to make insulin more accessible to poor populations.As well as training healthcare professionals in diabetes treatment, Novo Nordisk will also set up 'One-Stop-Shops', which will provide guidance and testing for people concerned about the disease as well as "easy and fast access to insulin"… Read more

BASF adds materials and labour to its U.S. hurricane relief contribution

BASFBASF will be contributing high-performance polyurethane spray foam insulation to NYSTY, the fund set up to rebuild underinsured homes of 'first responders' from New York's emergency services departments, whose homes were severely damaged by Hurricane Sandy.  BASF will also fund the installation of the material as part of its contribution to the continuing relief effort.Since the hurricane struck four months ago, BASF has contributed $250,000 via the BASF Foundation USA and the company is also matching donations made by employees… Read more

Toyota continues Hurricane Sandy clean-up commitment

ToyotaFour months after Hurricane Sandy struck the US, Toyota is continuing to place resources at the disposal of local communities trying to recover and rebuild from the catastrophe.In their most recent donation, the company passed on 19 Toyota vehicles to the Red Cross in the region for one year, providing vital transportation for the organisation.  Saint Paul's United Methodist Church will also receive a 4Runner SUV to be used in local clean-up efforts.Last year, Toyota donated $1 million to the relief efforts needed in the wake of Hurricane Sandy and donated five vehicles… Read more

Coca-Cola Enterprises on track to be HFC-free

Coca-Cola EnterprisesCoca-Cola Enterprises has already transformed its performance in regards to its refrigerators, with 85% of purchases since 2011 being HFC-free.  This year, that figure will be 100%.  In total, more than USD $60 million has been invested by the company in the last ten years to produce and develop HFC-free cooling technologies.HFC is a harmful greenhouse gas linked to global warming, whereas HFC-free refrigerators have a minimal environmental impact.  The drive to become HFC-free throughout the business forms part of CCE's 2020 strategy of reducing carbon emissions by 15%… Read more
