Bank of America announces more than $274,000 in grants to Portland area nonprofits
The Bank of America Charitable Foundation has announced that during the first six months of 2012, it awarded $274,200 in grants to Portland-area nonprofits.The grants awarded by the Bank of America Charitable Foundation focus significantly on neighborhood revitalization, with $158,000 going to local community development nonprofits focused on building and rehabilitating affordable housing facilities, foreclosure prevention services and homeowner counseling, and providing other services intended to help families with homeownership… Read more

Progress in eliminating conflict from minerals supply chains
Humanity organisation the Enough Project has released ‘Taking Conflict Out of Consumer Gadgets: Company Rankings on Conflict Minerals 2012,’ its second report ranking company progress toward responsible and conflict-free supply chains. The report by Enough Project shows that the majority of companies surveyed have made great strides in eliminating conflict minerals from their supply chains since first being evaluated in 2010. Toyota teams up with Japanese Ministry of Economy to develop rare earth recycling
The Nikkei, a stock market index for the Tokyo Stock Exchange, reports that Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry is teaming up with Toyota and other major Japanese manufacturers to develop technology for recovering and recycling rare-earth metals.This technology could eventually allow Japan to reduce its rare earth imports by at least 10% by 2025. Currently, Japan relies on China for approximately 80% of its rare earth elements. Unilever and DHL partner to drive sustainability within global logistics operations
Unilever and DHL Supply Chain have partnered on a series of initiatives that the companies say will increase sustainable practices and the speed of bringing products to market.According to Unilever and DHL, these new initiatives include developing technology to improve carbon efficiency and reduce waste within global logistics operations.
