Unilever and World Heart Federation announce new initiative

UnileverUnilever and the World Heart Federation announce a joint initiative to promote awareness of Heart Age - a new, personally motivating way of expressing an individual’s risk of developing heart disease and stroke. 1000 Accor hotels to join the Plant for the Planet programme

The hotel group Accor has announced that by April 2010 some 1,000 Accor hotels will be actively involved in Plant for the Planet: the Billion Tree Campaign, an initiative launched last year in association with the United Nations Environment Program. This global reforestation programme is designed to finance seven tree-planting projects around the world. Accor has pledged to donate 50% of the savings on laundry costs resulting from the responsible behaviour of hotel operators and their customers. An awareness-building campaign has been organized in participating hotels, asking customers to keep their bath towels for more than one night… Read more

Enel publishes 2008 Sustainability Report

EnelFor the consecutive seventh year Enel has published its Sustainability Report. The report follows the GRI-G3 guidelines as well as some of the new GRI EUSS (Electric Utilities Sector Supplement) indicators, which Enel, has been helping to develop with GRI over the past three years.The report says that with the creation of Enel Green Power, dedicated to the development and management of energy generation from renewable sources at the international level, Enel will now be able 'to play a leading role in a market segment with an extremely high potential for growth even in periods, like the current one, when the economy slows down'… Read more

BITC publishes 2009 CR Index

The results of the UK's leading voluntary benchmark of corporate responsibility were announced on 10 June at the Business in the Community conference ‘A New Era of Responsibility‘. This year 141 businesses participated in Business in the Community's (BITC) Corporate Responsibility Index (CR Index), with seven companies achieving the new Platinum Plus level. Alcatel-Lucent celebrates “International Days of Caring” in India

Alcatel-Lucent celebrated the International Days of Caring (IDOC) in India on 8 June 2009. Sponsored by the Alcatel-Lucent Foundation, IDOC is an employee volunteer initiative that takes place around the world to address key community needs and issues.As part of this global initiative, Alcatel-Lucent in India organized volunteer activities in Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Chennai in association with leading non- governmental organisations (NGOs).Among the activities Alcatel-Lucent employees in India have engaged in are, for example, life skills training for homeless elders and children from the slums with NGOs ARUWE and GoodLife in Chennai and a day of competitions and cultural events for disadvantaged people from three NGOs in Bangalore… Read more

Toyota's Eco-Schools Programme presented at 5th World Environmental Education Congress

ToyotaThe Eco-Schools Programme, supported by the Toyota Fund for Europe (TFfE), recently participated in the 5th World Environmental Education Congress in Montréal, Canada from 10 to 14 May 2009. The International Coordinator of the programme, Estela G. Pereira, presented the programme which enables children to improve the environment by planning and implementing their own creative ideas. Alcatel-Lucent Foundation sponsors US study trip to Cercle Passeport Télécoms students

Alcatel-Lucent has announced that 22 college students will be traveling to America after having successfully participated in the Cercle Passeport Télécoms (Telecoms Passport Circle) “We Made It!” competition. The students will be in the New York area from June 12 to 18, with the trip sponsored by the Alcatel-Lucent Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Alcatel-Lucent. The Cercle Passeport Télécoms programme consists of seven telecom companies (Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson France, Gemalto, Nokia France, Nokia Siemens Networks, Orange, SFR) that have joined forces with the French public institutions to support young people from disadvantaged areas in France throughout their studies and into the world of work… Read more
