FT's Orange supports 30 directors in their initiatives to raise awareness on environmental issues
Orange Ciné Max french TV channel will soon broadcast two-minute TV programs in which 30 directors from all continents offer short thought-provoking films on current environmental issues. Produced by Cinétévé, based on an original idea by Noëlle Deschamps, the visual telegrams present the visions of 30 directors on the environment. From the great North to Peru, from India to Burkina Faso, they all portray an environmental issue with their own sensitivity and talent: the melting of icecaps in the Arctic, the disappearance of butterflies from the countryside, the pollution of the seas in Rade de Brest, or deforestation in Amazonia… Read more

FT’s Orange review: young engineers come from diverse social backgrounds
The review revealed that almost half of the engineers under 30 years old come from families in which neither the mother nor the father are executives. Moreover, a growing percentage of young people have not attended preparatory classes before starting at engineering school. On top of that, the actual conditions for qualifying as engineers are becoming increasingly diverse, with a higher percentage of degrees achieved under apprenticeship programs (2% for all engineers, 6% for engineers under the age of 30)… Read more

Corporate Ireland joined Earth Hour 2010
Business in the Community Ireland (BITCI), a network of some of Ireland's biggest companies dedicated to corporate responsibility, has welcomed the active involvement of many of its members in this year's Earth Hour initiative. A number of leading Irish companies actively engaged in the campaign by switching off lights at company offices, high street stores and branches throughout the country, as well as communicating to thousands of staff in Ireland the importance of their own involvement at home… Read more

The Coca-Cola Company engaging its global system in support of Earth Hour
The Coca-Cola Company will darken many of its iconic signs as well as offices and bottling facilities across the world in support of World Wildlife Fund’s Earth Hour on Saturday, March 27 at 8:30 p.m. local time. Earth Hour is an event during which millions of people will turn out their lights for one hour in support of action on climate change. Alcatel-Lucent’s alternative energy program wins European Commission’s 2010 Sustainable Energy Europe competition
Lucent announced on 24th March that its “Alternative Energy Program for Global Green Telecommunications” was named as a winner in the 2010 European Commission’s Sustainable Energy Europe (SEE) campaign. Alcatel-Lucent entry outlined its program to develop and build wireless telecommunications base stations powered with alternative energies, such as solar, wind and fuel cells. This program, announced in February 2009, is designed to enable communications service providers to extend the reach of their wireless services to areas not served by an electrical grid, making it possible to provide telephone and broadband communications services to the more than 1 billion people who are still cut off from this vital tool for economic and social development… Read more

Aviva’s 2009 CR report covering progress and performance published
Aviva has extended its reporting of key metrics using the Accounting for Sustainability connected reporting framework, and published more in-depth information on its CR programme in the UK, Europe, Asia Pacific, North America and at Aviva Investors. For the first time, Aviva’s report is published wholly online and readers have the facility to create and download their own customised report package as required. Cargill’s 2nd Idaho dairy farm digester to produce enough electricity for approximately 1,100 homes
An Idaho dairy farm is illustrating how environmental innovation can simultaneously help solve problems as global as climate change and as local as livestock manure. A Cargill built and operated anaerobic digester on the Bettencourt Dairy B6 Farm is now converting manure from the farm's 6,000 cows into 1 million kilowatt-hours of electricity per month. The electricity is sold to the local power grid. The anaerobic digester from Cargill's Environmental Finance group operates by feeding manure into a large, sealed, in-ground, oxygen-free vessel… Read more

SEAT Germany Gmbh's health initiative "SEAT active – Move yourself" has been awarded with a prize in the nationwide innovation competition "365 locations in the country of ideas". Jürgen Süßmann, head of Darmstadt region of Deutsche Bank, awarded SEAT's health initiative as "selected location 2010". Sony to partner with UNDP and JICA to further anti-AIDS Millennium Goal
Sony Corporation is partnering with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to bolster the global fight to end poverty by 2015, with a special focus on the campaign to reverse the spread of HIV and AIDS. The partnership's AIDS-awareness campaign in Africa, called "Public Viewing in Africa" will focus on bringing health information to vulnerable communities in Cameroon and Ghana. This summer, Sony will set up large screens to broadcast live, for free, approximately 20 FIFA World Cup matches, allowing people in areas where TVs are scarce to see the matches… Read more
