Researchers from BASF plan to utilize greenhouse gas CO2 with solar energy

BASFUtilizing carbon dioxide as an energy source with the aid of sunlight is the goal being pursued in a new research project for recycling of greenhouse gases. Researchers from BASF, Energie Baden-Württemberg AG (EnBW), Heidelberg University and Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) are seeking to convert CO2 into a fuel for fuel cells or retrofitted internal combustion engines - a step towards implementing environmentally conscious mobility technologies and simultaneously an alternative to existing carbon dioxide storage plans… Read more

Hewlett-Packard Company Foundation commits up to $400,000 to relief efforts in China

HPHP announced on April 15 that Hewlett-Packard Company Foundation has committed $250,000 to organizations, including World Vision and the U.S. Fund for UNICEF, providing aid in the aftermath of the earthquake that devastated China’s Qinghai Province earlier in the week. The Foundation also has committed up to an additional $150,000 to match eligible contributions made by HP employees in support of the earthquake relief efforts, bringing the total amount committed by the Foundation to $400,000… Read more

New CSV report released by Nestlé

Nestlé has published its new Creating Shared Value (CSV) Report 2009, which this year highlights the company's achievements on nutrition, water and environmental sustainability and rural development. The full 90 page CSV Report, available as a download, shows that Nestlé has achieved a 59 per cent reduction in water withdrawal per tonne of product since 2000. For the first time Nestlé has also reported in line with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Reporting Framework and declared an application level of B+… Read more

Nestlé Chairman calls for a moratorium on deforestation

Addressing a question from Greenpeace at the Company's Annual General Meeting in Lausanne on April 15, Nestlé Chairman, Peter Brabeck-Letmathe condemned the use of food for fuel and said Nestlé had recognised the danger when it called for a moratorium on the destruction of rainforest in Brazil. He called on Greenpeace to constructively join Nestlé to help bring about a moratorium on the destruction of rainforests. He reiterated to the co-ordinator of the International Forest Campaign at Greenpeace Mr Venditti, Nestlé's 2008 call for the creation of a wide-ranging co-alition of stakeholders from industries which impact deforestation as well as representatives from government to make the moratorium a reality… Read more

Covalence EthicalQuote Ranking Q1 2010 released: CSR Europe member companies nominated

The Covalence EthicalQuote ranking was calculated for 581 multinationals within 18 sectors. Two technology companies, IBM (#1) and Intel (#2) entered the top 3 in the ranking. Technology companies were strong on criteria such as labour standards, international presence, joint ventures, environmental impact of production, product environmental risk, and humanitarian policy. Start date set for the implementation of CSR standards as part of the public procurement process

The General Director of Social Economy, Self-Employment and CSR of the Minister of Labour and Immigration, Juan- José Barrera, announced on 15th April the start date for the implementation of CSR standards as part of the public procurement process.
