CSR Europe’s EU Update Call

In the EU update webinar on 14 February 2013, Margaret Wachenfeld from the Institute for Human Rights and Business provided an update on the Human Rights Guidance in different corporate sectors (ICT, oil & gas, recruitment agencies). CSR Europe also explained its current and future activities of the Collaborative Project on Business and Human Rights, including the “Publication and Benchmark Tool on Company Mechanisms for Addressing Complaints”. CSR Europe bids farewell to Christine Stewart, Communications Manager

After two and a half years at CSR Europe, Christine Stewart is moving on to new challenges at the European Commission where she will be continuing to work in the field of communications and sustainability on an EU funded research project for the airline industry.  We wish her the best of luck in her new position and thank her for all the fantastic and tireless work in bringing the communications department at CSR Europe to the next level.A recruitment process for her replacement is ongoing but in the meantime all your communications queries and Newsbundle contributions can be sent to David Rutter at dr@csreurope…

IBM and Emerson cooperate to help business growth and save energy

IBMA joint project by Emerson and IBM will create an integrated data center infrastructure management (DCIM) system, which will help both tackle infrastructure issues impeding growth and save energy.The system will enable users to have a complete overview and control of their data center ecosystem.  The information gathered will allow businesses to then optimize their energy efficiency.A detailed explanation of the project is available here(Source: Energy Manage Today)

SITA awarded Eco-Label in Geneva

SITASITA's Geneva office has been awarded the Eco-label for Tri et dechet, and Energie, at a special ceremony held in December. The programme was started in 2011, when SITA undertook an initiative with Sponsorize to work towards certification. A small team got together to identify ways that SITA could reduce its impact on the environment in the Geneva office, and how best to quantify that reduction. It was identified that this fitted well into SITA's overall CSR programme (who funded the initiative), and supported the actions recommended as a result of SITA signing the UNGC… Read more

SITA South Africa provides a computer lab for school

SITAIn a new initiative, SITA in South Africa has worked with the local community to identify a school project with a difference. Missourilaan Secondary School located in Eldorado Park is benefitting from a new computer lab, provided by SITA.SITA’s sponsorship has allowed for an existing classroom to be refurbished and converted into a computer lab boasting 43 new computers complete with MS Office and Internet functionality. SITA employees,  together with youths and teachers, cleared the classroom which was then painted by the SITA team… Read more

More companies report profit from sustainability efforts

A recent report by the MIT Sloan Management Review has shown that companies are increasingly finding that their sustainability efforts are creating profit.  Up from 23 percent last year, 37 percent of companies are now reporting profit thanks to their sustainability efforts.  These companies have typically focused on the opportunities that an integrated sustainability model in their business will bring - such as less energy costs and a greater market share - rather than thinking of sustainability as a cost issue… Read more

CSR Europe Board members agree on new 2013 – 2015 workprogramme

During the latest Board Meeting, the Secretariat discussed CSR Europe’s new service structure 2013 – 2015 and presented an analysis of the current services approach and its merits/demerits.  In this context, the overall frameworks, key activities and timelines of the new European Business Campaigns on ‘Skills for Jobs’ and the first draft outline of the topics for the Sustainable Living in Cities’ Campaign were reviewed.Additionally the Board congratulated the CSR Europe team on the extremely successful delivery of the Enterprise 2020 Summit and positioning CSR in Europe with the agenda for social innovation and competitiveness… Read more
