Green consumer spending defies the downturn
Despite the difficult economic climate putting a general damper on consumer spending, a major report says that the market for green products and services grew by a recession-busting five per cent last year, valuing the sector at £6.4bn. According to a draft of the Co-operative Bank's annual Ethical Consumerism study seen by the Guardian newspaper, the average UK household now spends an average of £251 a year on environmentally friendly offerings.
