EU companies hit at emissions cut plan

Leading companies from the European Union have attacked proposals for the bloc to go beyond existing commitments to cut greenhouse gas emissions at climate talks in Copenhagen. The head of one of Europe's largest energy groups has suggested that going further would be "physically impossible". EU leaders last week failed to agree about raising their commitment from a 20 per cent cut in emissions from 1990 levels by 2020, to a 30 per cent cut, after Polish-led opposition from eastern member states. The EU stuck by its commitment to make deeper cuts if other large economies made "equivalent" efforts. Read more (Financial Times)
