Novartis delivery of child-friendly antimalarial hits the 100 million mark

KPMG says environmental costs average 40% of corporate earnings

If companies had to pay for the full environmental costs of their production, they would lose 41 cents on average for every US dollar in earnings, according to a new study, Expect the Unexpected: Building Business Value in a Changing World by KPMG.The research finds that the external environmental costs of 11 key industry sectors jumped 50% from $566 to $846 billion in 8 years (2002 to 2010), averaging a doubling of these costs every 14 years. CSR Europe presents at Philippe de Woot award ceremony for best Master thesis on CSR

Jan Noterdaeme, CSR Europe’s Senior Advisor of External Relations, presented the concept of business leadership through Enterprise 2020 at the Philippe de Woot Award Ceremony for the best Master thesis on CSR. This year the ceremony was organised by Vlerick Leuven Gent Management School on behalf of an association of Belgian business schools. Stefan Maas won the Award for best Master's thesis on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Victoria Jadot won the Special Academic Award. DPD to Deliver Carbon Neutral Packages by July

Logistics company DPD, a subsidiary of GeoPost and La Poste, has announced plans to move to completely carbon-neutral shipping, at no extra cost to customers.The German shipper says it is working to reduce the carbon dioxide it produces and will offset the remaining CO2 generated in its five biggest markets – France, Germany, the U.K., Netherlands and BeLux – starting in July, with the rest of DPD’s markets joining in the near future.The offsets will total about 500,000 tons a year, covering emissions from transport, building, packaging sales and paper consumption, although DPD expects the figure to fall… Read more

Unilever ‘Green’ Freezers Cut Energy Use 10%

UnileverBen & Jerry’s and its parent company, Unilever, are starting the U.S. roll-out of ice cream freezer cabinets that are expected to use at least 10 percent less energy.The company said the freezer cabinets, which it has used for several years across Europe and Asia, also replace harmful “F” gas coolants with hydrocarbon refrigerants, which were approved by the EPA last December. Unilever committed to stop buying cabinets using hydro fluorocarbons (HFCs) in 2000, and in 2004 it started replacing these cabinets with HC refrigerants… Read more
