HP earns top environmental rating for entire workstation line

HPHP has announced that its entire personal workstation line has become the first in the category to achieve a "Gold" listing – the highest rating products can achieve – in the Electronic Products Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT™). For carbon emissions, some businesses aim for less than zero

Many businesses will have to go carbon neutral, if the world is going to sharply reduce the amount of carbon dioxide pumped into the atmosphere by midcentury, the International Herald Tribune reports. But some could go even further by removing more CO2 than they produce. Instead of carbon neutral, how about carbon negative? Men rule New Zealand's corporate roost

Men rule New Zealand's corporate roost, with women occupying fewer than half the board positions in leading companies, the New Zealand Herald reports. A new survey, the Human Rights Commission Census of Women's Participation, reveals that 60 of the 100 companies listed on the New Zealand Stock Exchange have no women on their boards. UK: New sexual harassment law to protect staff from customers

Employers will be duty-bound from next week to protect their staff from sexual harassment by customers, suppliers and others they encounter in the course of their work, the Guardian reports. Workers are already protected from harassment by colleagues, but under new rules which come into force on April 6, they will be able to seek damages from employers who fail to take reasonable steps to protect them from harassment by a third party, if bosses knew that at least two incidents had already taken place. Audi approves eco-friendly BASF refinish paint system for after sales service in India

BASFAudi and BASF have signed a strategic collaboration agreement which makes Audi the first car manufacturer in India to use BASF's environmentally friendly waterborne refinish paint system. The BASF product "Glasurit 90 Line Innovation" cuts down solvent emission by 90% and also saving cost of waste disposal by 95%. Volvo Europa Truck, a subsidiary of the Volvo AB Group, set itself the goal of eliminating all CO2 emissions at its production units. The production unit in Ghent, Belgium, is serving as a pilot plant. Corporate sponsors nervous as Tibet protest groups shadow Olympic torch’s run

The disruption of a Chinese official's address during the Olympic torch lighting ceremonies in Greece last week was just the beginning of a string of protests planned to coincide with the torch's trip around the globe, the New York Times reports. Advertising consultants and political scientists say that influence of the pro-Tibet network is expected to keep the issue of autonomy and violence in Tibet front and center for weeks. Labour practices top the list of human rights reporting topics, study says

Companies need to go further in including quantifiable information about human rights in their sustainability reports, concluded a survey on corporate human rights reporting just released by GRI and the Roberts Environmental Center (a research institute at Claremont McKenna College).  The survey, based on information published by 100 large companies from around the world, evaluated the extent to which performance information is reported by companies to describe their compliance with widely accepted human rights objectives… Read more
