Social networking sites, EU ink pact on child safety online
The European Commission and a number of social networking sites have signed an agreement that they hope will help protect kids who use these services online, Ars Technica reports. Seventeen web media companies have signed an agreement with the European Commission to help assure child safety and protect kids from cyber bullying online. The companies came together in Luxembourg in order to acknowledge their responsibility to protect users under 18 from things like cyberbullying, grooming (when an adult becomes friends with a minor with the intent of sexually abusing him or her), and other risky behaviour… Read more

CSR focus in business travel withstanding financial crisis, study says
Economic pressures have not yet squelched corporate social responsibility efforts as they relate to sustainable travel, according to a new study from the Association of Corporate Travel Executives and KDS. Seventy-nine percent of respondents listed cost cutting as a "high priority," while 17 percent did so for environmentally sustainable business travel - down from 29 percent in last year's survey. Citi Foundation funding gives boost to 15 microenterprise organisations
With funding from the Citi Foundation, 15 nonprofit community-based organisations across the United States that help entrepreneurs start and grow their businesses will be able to hire graduate students as summer interns this year. This is the third consecutive year that Citi Foundation has supported the "Citi Aspen Interns Project". Funding allows each organisation to recruit and hire an intern, who receives a $7,000 stipend. As part of the $250,000 program, the Citi Foundation is also funding researchers at FIELD, the Microenterprise Fund for Innovation, Effectiveness, Learning and Dissemination, to manage the project and provide the interns with data collection training… Read more

EABIS and EFMD launch gateway to profile corporate responsibility in management development
The European Academy of Business in Society (EABIS) and the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD) are have launched their new Business in Society Gateway website (www.businessinsociety.eu). Toyota launches "Aim Zero Emissions" blog
Toyota Motor Europe has launched a new blog entitled "Aim: Zero Emissions" at www.aimzeroemissions.eu. ArcelorMittal South Africa launches long-term partnership with the Department of Education
ArcelorMittal South Africa and the South African Department of Education have announced a partnership to build ten new schools throughout the country using new steel technology. In a first for South Africa, the Primary School will be built using insulated panels technology, which relies heavily on steel as a building material.
