Toyota Motor Europe welcomes PURPLE
Toyota Motor Europe has welcomed delegates from the Peri Urban Regions Platform Europe (PURPLE) to Head Office on 13 November. The members of PURPLE were gathered in Brussels for the organisation's General Assembly and the network provides a forum to discuss how to optimise urbanisation, agriculture, open spaces and business development at the periphery of cities. The visit by the representatives from PURPLE presented the Toyota Greenway team with a wonderful opportunity to obtain feedback on Toyota's CSR initiatives and to understand the expectations for the future. Two new Orange Foundations launched in the Dominican Republic and Moldavia
Two new Orange Foundations has been set up in Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic and Chisinau in Moldavia, in the presence of staff from the subsidiaries, as well as leading local figures and associations. These new foundations take the number of France Telecom Group foundations up to 10. With the Dominican Republic and Moldavia joining, this network spans over France, Spain, Senegal, Mali, Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Poland and Slovakia. DPD Switzerland engages staff in sustainability
DPD Switzerland, part of the international parcel delivery service network of GeoPost Group (a 100% subsidiary of La Poste Group), is engaging 800 employees in trainings addressing the global and national challenges with regard to climate change ahead of the Copenhagen Climate Change Summit in December. Each of the 25 meetings will comprise 30 employees and will be conducted in the local language. CSR Sweden co-organises first Swedish-Egyptian CSR event on 2 December
CSR Sweden will co-organise the first bilateral Swedish Egyptian CSR event taking place at the residence at the Swedish Embassy in Egypt, along with the Swedish Export Council, Egyptian Corporate Responsibility Center, Egyptian Institute of Directors and UNDP. The event will focus on comparative learning within CSR where expertise and business cases will be shared from both Egypt and Sweden. Orange launches a web customer service in French sign language and written dialogue
The remote customer service (Vente à Distance) accessible to disabled people by call, videoconference or written chat, is a break through in Europe. It has just been presented to Gilbert Montagné, French national secretary for the disabled for the UMP party. It's the first of a kind in France, the dedicated remote customer service for disabled people has been adapted for the deaf, hearing or speech impaired. In France, 500,000 deaf people, 5 million hearing impaired individuals among which 100,000 who use French sign language could benefit from this service, and the service allows to contact in real time a customer adviser specifically trained to answer disabled people's needs and questions… Read more

Carbon Disclosure Project launches CDP Water Disclosure Initiative
Since the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) first issued requests to companies for information on greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in 2003, the number of respondents has grown to nearly 2,500, giving the non-profit organization the largest database on climate change information in the world. Investors have recognized the materiality of corporate climate change disclosure, and at present 475 institutional investors, holding $55 trillion in assets under management, are CDP signatories. Now, amid rapidly growing concerns among investors and other stakeholders regarding the impacts of water stress and scarcity, the CDP has launched the CDP Water Disclosure, an initiative which seeks to increase reporting on water-related risks and opportunities, especially by companies operating in water-intensive sectors… Read more

Investors failing to see incremental climate change costs because of ‘extreme’ event focus
Companies and their investors are missing the potential impact of climate change on share prices by focusing on the risks of extreme weather events rather than examining more relevant incremental costs and opportunities, according to research by four of the UK's largest institutional investors. The report, titled: "Managing the unavoidable: investment implications of a changing climate", was produced by an investor ginger group managing over £200bn in assets that was created last year. New report shows water scarcity can be mitigated affordably and sustainably
A new report released on 23 November by the 2030 Water Resources Group (which involves Nestle), 'Charting Our Water Future', shows that growing water scarcity can be mitigated affordably and sustainably. By providing greater clarity on the scale of the water challenge and the cost of the solutions, it offers a fact-based tool to help stakeholders make informed investment decisions and guide policy discussions. It finds that if no action is taken, by 2030, projected population and economic growth will lead to global water demand that is 40% in excess of current supply… Read more

Business coalition calls for firm CO2 treaty
The private sector investment needed to tackle climate change will not be made without a binding international deal on carbon emissions, according to the head of a big business coalition. Lars Josefsson, chairman of Combat Climate Change, a group including BP, General Electric, Unilever and more than 60 other large companies, said business was ready to act but would not do so without a clear regulatory framework. "The necessary investments will only be made when you have a binding treaty and legislation," he said in an interview. Read more (Financial Times)
