Companies voice their support for effective climate change legislation
As Anne Kelly, Director of Governance Programs at Ceres, told SocialFunds.com, "Anyone who has been involved in clean tech is just stunned at how the US is letting this opportunity slip away. As Germany charges ahead, and China charges ahead, with smart investment policies, we could continue to be dependent on other countries for our renewable energy sources if we don't get our act together." Kelly was speaking with SocialFunds.com about We Can Lead, a coalition of business leaders who support comprehensive and innovative energy and climate policies in the US… Read more

The EU and social inclusion – ESF in action
Social cohesion is an important goal of the EU and a major element in the European values expressed in the inclusive social welfare and support systems. Yet, many groups of people in the Union suffer from social exclusion, and for different reasons. This extends to employment where people find it difficult to get a job. The European Social Fund (ESF) is supporting the sustainable integration of the disadvantaged people with disabilities to the workforce. It includes counselling and training adapted to the specific need of this public, providing pathways for integration and entry into employment, support for the entrepreneurship of disadvantaged and disabled people, and awareness campaigns to fight discrimination and change attitudes, among other things… Read more

Introduction to a revolution in sustainable packaging
A new book on “Designing Sustainable Packaging” shows that almost revolutionary changes in design are on their way and explains how designers and producers can cope with them. While packaging technologies are in a constant state of flux, the extend and rate of flux are often modest, and this has been the case over the last decade or so of clamshells and multi-layer cartons. But occasionally there are jolts to the system, and the pace of change accelerates beyond what many thought possible… Read more

Cargill’s 2nd Idaho dairy farm digester to produce enough electricity for approximately 1,100 homes
An Idaho dairy farm is illustrating how environmental innovation can simultaneously help solve problems as global as climate change and as local as livestock manure. A Cargill built and operated anaerobic digester on the Bettencourt Dairy B6 Farm is now converting manure from the farm's 6,000 cows into 1 million kilowatt-hours of electricity per month. The electricity is sold to the local power grid.
