Unilever commits to sustainably source 100% of paper and board packaging by 2020

UnileverAs part of the company's commitment to promote sustainable forestry practices and help combat deforestation and climate change, Unilever has released its sustainable paper and board packaging sourcing policy that clearly defines the company's paper sourcing goals over the next decade. Unilever set a target goal to source 75 percent of its paper and board packaging from sustainably managed forests or from recycled material by 2015, reaching 100 percent by 2020. European Competition on 'Good practice in cities and municipalities in Europe for and with elderly migrants'

The European Commission is supporting a project on Active Ageing of Migrant Elders across Europe (AEMEE project) which is realised by the Ministry of Intergenerational Affairs, Family, Women and Integration of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Alcatel-Lucent Foundation supports Off Road Kids Foundation in Germany

The Alcatel-Lucent Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Alcatel-Lucent is supporting the street-worker initiative Off Road Kids in Germany this year with a donation of US$110,000. This is the largest charitable project carried out by the Foundation in Germany to date. Off Road Kids is dedicated to give new perspectives to street children in Germany. It is the only relief organization in this field which is operating country-wide. Dow Water & Process Solutions unveiled new electrodeionization technology

DowDow Water & Process Solutions, a business unit of The Dow Chemical Co. and its consolidated subsidiaries (Dow) and a global supplier of advanced technologies for purification and separation processes, announced at the beginning of July that the next generation of its electrodeionization (EDI) product for industrial water treatment is available globally. Global Reporting Initiative and Carbon Disclosure Project release linkage document

Both GRI's Reporting Framework and CDP's Questionnaire invite reporting on GHG emissions and climate change. The GRI Guidelines, however, cover the broader elements of sustainability reporting, and ESG in particular. With over 1,300 organizations from 64 countries that published a GRI based sustainability report in 2009, and 2,500 organizations around the world that used CDP's questionnaire to report their climate change data, the two organizations have agreed to collaborate and feedback on each other's general and sector-specific guidelines and questionnaires. UK government hopes to encourage more small-scale renewable generation

The government has launched on July 12 a consultation on a microgeneration strategy for household and business use of green technologies less than 50 kW in size, and heat generating technologies less than 300 kW in size. The plans are parts of a move to overturn a ban on councils selling green electricity into the national grid. Through microgeneration homes, schools and businesses can get cash payments through the 'feed-in tariff' for producing their own green electricity through solar panels or small wind turbines, as well as for selling it to the national grid… Read more
