Study: Two-thirds of Stoxx 50 companies report on diversity
Seventy-six percent of large European companies included in the Stoxx 50 index mentioned ‘Diversity’ in their annual reports for 2007, according to a study by European Diversity Research & Consulting. The number of companies reporting on diversity has significantly increased over the past six years, the study shows. In 2003, only 17 (34%) of the 50 companies reported on diversity. Intel launches Small Things Challenge to raise funds for education and micro-loans
Intel Corporation has joined forces with two non-profit organisations to raise awareness and funds so children in developing countries can attend primary school and their parents can earn higher incomes. China: Poll reveals mixed feelings about CSR and multinationals
The Chinese public has mixed feelings over the reasons behind multinationals' corporate social responsibility activities, according to an Ipsos survey of 1,000 respondents in 10 Chinese cities. Sixty percent of the respondents said that CSR is in line with the operating philosophy of these companies and is a benefit to Chinese society. New tool measures sustainability of corporate water use
The Center for Sustainable Innovation has released a new tool to measure the ecological sustainability of an organisation’s water use, Environmental Leader reports. Called the Corporate Water Gauge (PDF), the new tool uses GIS modeling to take into account rainfall, local topography and watershed boundaries. Toyota's 'Why Not?' website invites users to share innovations
Toyota and Dentsu America have launched a microsite at www.toyota.com/whynot to support Toyota's "Why Not?" corporate advertising campaign. The site will engage users by allowing them to submit their own innovations in six areas - safety, water, land, air, community, and energy - while learning about Toyota's efforts in these same areas. Research and innovation needed to address climate change and globalisation
The 2008 European Innovation Scoreboard (EIS) published today shows the EU making substantial progress in its innovation performance preceding the financial crisis. The relative innovation gap with the US and Japan was reduced, in particular amid strong progress by many new Member States, the report says. Ecologists warn the planet is running short of water
A swelling global population, changing diets and mankind's expanding “water footprint” could be bringing an end to the era of cheap water, Times Online reports. The warnings, in an annual report by the Pacific Institute in California, come as ecologists have begun adopting the term “peak ecological water” — the point where, like the concept of “peak oil”, the world has to confront a natural limit on something once considered virtually infinite.
