Urgent action needed to close the gender pay gap
Daniela Bankier, Head of the European Commission's unit for Equality between Men and Women, called for the gender pay gap to be urgently addressed as it leads to a waste of resources for society and businesses. Her comments were made during a roundtable debate between stakeholders including representatives of the European Parliament and trade unions. Ms Bankier also outlined the complex causes of the gender pay gap and the differences that exist between EU Member States. Read more (EC)

Orange staff rallying to support children in Haiti
As part of the solidarity measures adopted by Orange following the earthquake in Haiti, the Orange Foundation is committed to helping renovate schools in partnership with UNICEF. A fundraising drive with the French Group staff has made it possible to collect nearly 160,000 euros and the Orange Foundation has decided to contribute an equivalent amount for each euro raised. As a result, UNICEF will receive 320,000 euros for pursuing its actions for children and enabling them to benefit from an education… Read more

Carbon Disclosure Project publishes second annual supply chain report
The Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) issued its first report on greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in corporate supply chains last year, asking the 34 members of its CDP Supply Chain project to request their suppliers to report on emissions and climate change strategies. The report was the first to provide a standard reporting model for the reporting of supply chain emissions, and its importance was beyond question. New report: Diversity management in Poland
Responsible Business Forum presents "Diversity management in Poland" Report, a publication which is the first attempt to analyze diversity management in Poland. The Report was created as a part of a European CSR/Diversity Report within the framework of the CSR Diversity Project. The report has been drawn up based on: analyzing reports, prepared from 2004 until 2008 by the Responsible Business Forum titled "Responsible Business in Poland. HP data center uses free-cooling all but 20 hours per year
A new HP data center in England will be able to rely on filtered outside air for IT cooling needs for all but 20 hours a year, reports Data Center Journal. While the new data center cost 6 percent more to construct than conventional ones, it is expected to make up the difference in energy savings over the long haul.The data center, located in Wynhard, England, gained unexpected notoriety when ComputerWorld erroneously reported that that the facility was wind-cooled. Leading companies lack water-related risk disclosures
The majority of leading companies in water-intensive industries lack adequate disclosure of water-related risks and opportunities, according to a new report from the Ceres investor coalition, UBS and Bloomberg. 2010 Olympic Winter Games on a sustainable track
After seven years of sustainability efforts, the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games has achieved numerous environmental goals including a carbon neutral Organizing Committee and torch relay, and 62 games-related sustainability innovations, according to the fourth annual corporate Vancouver 2010 Sustainability Report. The report covers the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games' (VANOC) performance against its sustainability commitments between August 1, 2008 and July 31, 2009.
