Intel® Teach - Interactive, the new professional development for teachers, was launched in February 2010 as part of the Intel® Education Initiative and is the further development of the previous Intel® Teach projects. As a result the tried and tested methodology has been extended by opportunities for interaction and additional learning objects, a communication tool and a peer coaching program. Launch of Intel Teach – Advanced Online in Spain: Over 10,500 teachers will receive training on pedagogy with ICT
The Minister of Education, Juan José Mateos, INTEL Managing Director, Brian Gonzalez and the President of the INTEL Foundation, Shelly Esque, have signed an agreement early February to promote the ‘Castile and Leon 21st Century Digital Schools' strategy. Over 10,500 teachers from the Spanish region of Castilla y Leon will receive specialized training on pedagogy with ICTs thanks to the ‘Intel Teach - Advanced Online' program. A snapshot of working conditions in Europe today
Eurofound has launched the fieldwork for its fifth European Working Conditions Survey. Between January and April, Eurofound, in cooperation with Gallup Europe, will put around 120 questions to approximately 43,000 workers in 34 European countries. The survey provides unique pan-European comparative information about such issues as working time, exposure to risks at work, health and safety, work organisation, work–life balance, training, and overall job satisfaction, with the aim of helping social policymakers make decisions that will improve overall living and working conditions… Read more

World's top firms cause $2.2tn of environmental damage, report estimates
The cost of pollution and other damage to the natural environment caused by the world's biggest companies would wipe out more than one-third of their profits if they were held financially accountable, a major unpublished study for the United Nations has found. The report comes amid growing concern that no one is made to pay for most of the use, loss and damage of the environment, which is reaching crisis proportions in the form of pollution and the rapid loss of freshwater, fisheries and fertile soils. Cargill launches 82 Farmer Field Schools – 10,000 farmers to be trained this year
Cargill's Cocoa & Chocolate business has committed to doubling the number Farmer Field Schools it operates in Côte d'Ivoire to 300 by mid 2010. Initially the company will launch another 82 schools this month building on the 150 already established and overall the program will train 10,000 farmers by the end of the year. The commitment celebrates 10 years of successful farmer training by Cargill in Côte d'Ivoire and underlines the company's belief that training farmers successfully is key to building a sustainable supply chain, helps increase farmers' incomes and supports the future growth of cocoa farming… Read more

A recent analysis of the barriers to eco-innovation has indicated that uncertainty about future market demand for innovation holds back commercialisation of eco-innovations. Orange Healthcare joins the mHealth Alliance to develop mobile health solutions in West Africa
At the GSM Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Orange Healthcare announced that they will be joining the mHealth Alliance, a partnership which leverages rapid advances in mobile technology to improve public health, healthcare systems and patient care in the developing world. Orange Healthcare will begin working with the mHealth Alliance on projects focused in West Africa. 859 companies delisted for failure to communicate on progress
The Global Compact Office has announced that 859 companies were removed (delisted) from the initiative's database of participants between 1 October 2009 and 1 January 2010. The total number of businesses removed for failure to meet the Global Compact's mandatory annual reporting requirement now stands at 1840.Under the Global Compact's policies, participating businesses must issue an annual progress report (also known as Communication on Progress, or COP) on their implementation of the initiative's ten principles covering human rights, workplace standards, the environment, and anti-corruption… Read more

Investors step up pressure on corporate responsibility reporting
A coalition of global investors from 13 countries, managing over US$2.1 trillion of assets, has added its voice to the increasing calls for better corporate reporting on environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) activities. The international investor coalition is writing to 86 major companies urging them to honour the reporting requirements of the United Nations Global Compact, the world's biggest voluntary corporate responsibility initiative. Each of the 86 "laggard" companies has previously joined the UN initiative but failed to produce the mandatory annual report on how it puts the initiative's ten principles into action… Read more
